The Department of Internal Medicine, Divisions of General Internal Medicine, Hospital Medicine, and Endocrinology are seeking a full-time Assistant/Associate Professor of Research to serve as the Director of Outcomes Research in their divisions. This position will engage in outcomes research of health care practices to help design, implement, and evaluate care systems that will improve patient outcomes and reduce costs across the healthcare system. This leader will integrate outcomes research across multiple disciplines, building a team to focus on improving the quality and safety of healthcare, patient outcomes, and cost-efficiency.
Essential Functions
- Overseeing the clinical outcomes research strategy across the divisions of General Internal Medicine, Hospital Medicine, and Endocrinology.
- Identifying gaps in scientific programs and research methodology to enhance the development of projects and improve clinical outcomes and quality of care.
- Providing strategic scientific and clinical guidance to develop action plans that advance scientific goals.
- Processing and analyzing results and data to provide scientific evidence for clinical decision making and health care.
- Remaining up to date on new trends, developments, and innovations in clinical outcomes research and related areas of clinical science.
- Maintaining a strong publication record pertaining to outcomes with faculty, non-physician providers, trainees, etc. is anticipated and expected.
- Maintaining own funded research program and providing ongoing mentorship of students, residents, and fellows interested in outcomes research.
- Identifying new outcome research funding opportunities.
- Acting as a liaison with other relevant divisions and departments, including UC Foundation and Marketing to identify philanthropic opportunities and research programs that should be highlighted for publications or events.
- Assist the division directors in maintaining and reporting metrics, improving workflows, and submitting reports to departments, funders, and other sources.
- Act as a liaison with faculty, trainees, staff, university departments, ancillary departments, and/or satellite facilities to address and identify areas that could benefit from outcomes analysis.
Required Education
- PhD in Biostatistics, Outcomes Research, Population Health, or other related fields.
Required Experience
- Successful record of research funding with current R01 or equivalent funding.
- Strong record of publications.
- Experience in mentoring research faculty and trainees.
- Demonstrated knowledge of outcomes research methodology and implementation.
