University of California Irvine Project Scientist in Computational Biology - Center for Epigenetics and Metabolism The Center for Epigenetics and Metabolism at UCI is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Computational Biologist to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will lead efforts in developing and implementing high-throughput genomics pipelines to dissect the functions of the noncoding genome. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of biology, computational biology, and data science, to make significant contributions to our understanding of genomic regulation. This individual will join an innovative group of computational and experimental biologists where team-oriented approaches are prioritized to tackle significant questions in health and disease. This position will collaborate with computational students and fellows within the Marazzi and Seldin labs on a variety of current genomics applications and tools. Examples of research goals include in-depth characterizations of the non-coding genome, integrative surveys of datasets generated from new technologies (long read sequencing or spatial omics approaches) and examination of large-scale publicly available datasets such as ENCODE. Key Responsibilities include: -Lead the design, development, and optimization of high-throughput genomics pipelines for analyzing noncoding DNA/RNA sequences. -Collaborate closely with experimental biologists and bioinformaticians to integrate multi-omics data. -Apply advanced computational techniques, such as machine learning algorithms, and statistical methods to uncover regulatory elements and functional motifs within the noncoding genome. -Implement best practices for data quality control, processing, and analysis, ensuring reproducibility and reliability of results. -Stay abreast of latest advancements in genomics, computational biology, and bioinformatics, and apply emerging technologies to enhance pipeline efficiency and accuracy. -Mentor junior team members, provide technical guidance, and contribute to a collaborative and innovative research environment. Preferred candidates will demonstrate (1) a proven track record of developing and/or implementing high-throughput genomics pipelines (2) a strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or Perl (3) expertise in next-generation sequencing (NGS) data analysis (4) experience with statistical analysis, machine learning, and data visualization techniques (5) excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams. Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud) and parallel computing frameworks, genomic databases, annotation resources, pathway analysis tools, regulatory genomics, epigenetics, and chromatin biology is desired.
