Position Summary Dr. Chaolin Zhang???s laboratory at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center is seeking a highly motivated Technician B to support ongoing research projects in the lab. Located in the Hammer building, the Zhang Laboratory is part of Department of Systems Biology, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics (BMB), and the Center for Motor Neuron Biology and Disease (MNC). Our efforts are primarily to understand the broad roles that co-, and post-transcriptional regulatory processes (such as alternative pre-mRNA splicing) play during neurodevelopment and in the course of incurable neurodegenerative diseases, and to exploit RNA biogenesis as novel targets for therapeutics. The lab employs stem-cell-derived neuronal cultures, brain organoids and in vivo mouse models using a combination of biochemistry, molecular biology, and high-throughput quantitative and integrative approaches. Responsibilities Overall, the Technician B will have dynamic responsibilities within a highly collaborative environment to yield fundamental biological insights about the nervous system and to develop novel stem-cell-based biotechnologies for neurological disease. Ideal candidates are those interested in using state-of-the-art techniques to generate a variety of neurons from stem cells carrying pathogenic mutations, to explore mechanisms of disease in the dish by conducting perturbation screens, and to investigate potential oligonucleotide drugs in this context. Successful applicants will join a vibrant, interdisciplinary and productive research team, with continuous opportunities for technical and intellectual growth. They will work closely with the principal investigator, post docs, and graduate students in designing, carrying out, and coordinating research.
