Unique Skills:

What you will do:

As a front-line leader, refine and execute Validation and Verification processes for our Flight Control software as well as other onboard critical systems. Work with our Flight Dynamics Team as well as other groups to assure consistency and knowledge sharing across programs and tasks while executing to program schedules. Experience with both DO-178C and ARP 4754 are desired, as tasks will support both levels. Experience with airplane dynamics and systems interactions and effects are desired.



  • Executing V&V Tasks and Activities: Leading the execution of verification and validation tasks, employing appropriate methods and tools to confirm the systems performance and reliability with a blended approach of automation and manual testing.


  • Developing a V&V Management Plan: Crafting a comprehensive plan outlining the strategies, methods, and activities for effective verification and validation of Flight Sciences related items.


  • Influence Software Design, Documentation, and Requirements: Provide guidance and best practices for verifiability of the design work.


  • Identifying V&V Requirements: Determining the specific verification and validation requirements to ensure the systems functionality, reliability, and compliance with established standards.


  • Reporting and Documentation: Documenting the V&V processes, results, and findings, and providing detailed reports and metrics to stakeholders and project teams.


  • Ensuring Compliance: Verifying that the Flight Sciences systems comply with specified standards, performance criteria, and user expectations, ensuring appropriate functionality and reliability.


  • Optimization: Enhancing testing processes to ensure appropriate evaluation and validation of system functionalities and capabilities.


  • Collaboration: Working closely with design and test teams to ensure that testing insights are integrated into development and operational strategies.


  • Testing: Test efforts will include box level, desktop simulation, and lab testing.

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Understand the value and importance of both software and airplane system level testing to support both DO-178 and ARP 4754 activities. Work to find opportunities to reuse artifacts at multiple levels.

  • Lead a team of V&V engineers and effectively influence key internal and external stakeholders

  • Help develop and shape both Company and Directorate processes and ensure activities are performed efficiently and in accordance with both purposes.

  • Manage multiple V&V projects in parallel utilizing resources efficiently to complete projects in a timely manner.

  • Ensure the V&V processes are effective, appropriate, and agile.

  • Support and protect project timelines and milestones.

  • Support development of System Requirements to ensure they are appropriate and testable.

  • Support and guide validation activities.

  • Support proposals for team budget.

  • Provide direction/oversight for contract support executing validation activities for software validation/assurance from initial validation through on-going periodic reviews, including validation contributions to product-based periodic reviews if needed

  • Maintain a continuous, deliberate focus on organizational relationships.

  • Develop and maintain perpetual, long term knowledge growth and group capabilities through training, and mentoring.

  • Recruit and retain engineering talent, conduct interviews, and make staffing selections.

  • Other related duties as assigned or required.

Desired Skills

Experience in DO-178 and ARP 4754 verification and validation activities

Experience with airplane system level testing in both a desktop and lab environment

Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's Degree Engineering or related curriculum required or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job. 10 years Engineering experience. 5 years specific technical discipline. Experience credit considered for related advanced degrees limited to 2 yrs with Masters, 4 yrs with PhD in fields applicable to this job. 1 year supervisory or broad managerial responsibility.

Position Purpose:

Supervises a group of engineering employees within a similar discipline responsible for task and objective assignments. Utilizing diversified knowledge and engineering experience, provides direction to subordinate employees, administers performance standards, schedules and budgets.

  • Develops and evaluates plans for projects and activities; assesses technical feasibility and soundness of proposed analysis, tests, or concepts being applied.


  • Provides direct supervision of employees of similar expertise for a large project or a number of small projects.


  • Communicates performance expectations, salary administration, and conducts performance appraisals.


  • Responsible for establishing and executing objectives that support short term goals.


  • Makes decisions independently on engineering problems and methods; represents the organization to resolve important issues and to plan and coordinate work.


  • Conducts briefings and participates in technical meetings concerning specific projects.


  • Acts as an advisor to subordinate leads or staff members.


  • Actively participates in daily operations as required. to meet schedules and resolve issues.


  • Additional Functions:
  • May recommend modifications to operating policies. .


  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • The level of managerial skills and abilities appropriate for this grade may be established by each discipline.


  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong interpersonal skills and the ability to gain the cooperation of others.
