Job Type: Support Staff - Union Bargaining Unit: SSA Regular/Temporary: Regular Hours Per Week: 35 Salary Range: $51,839 - $51,839 The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Position Summary Our laboratory focuses on translational research concerning antimicrobial resistance mechanisms and the microbiome's role in health and disease. We are currently looking to fill four technician-level B positions to provide essential research support. These roles will contribute to various projects, including investigating the role of the cervical microbiome in premature birth, studying the impact of antibiotic prophylaxis on drug resistance emergence, and supporting projects within the Microbiome Core. Responsibilities Provide general research support, conduct experiments,analyze results, and meticulous maintain scientific records. Execute standard procedures outlined in protocols. Perform microbiological and molecular biology techniques, including DNA/RNA isolation, RT-PCR, library preparations, and whole-genome sequencing under supervision. Maintain laboratory equipment to ensure optimal functionality. Adhere to laboratory safety regulations rigorously. Implement quality control measures. Perform other related duties as assigned and/or essential to the laboratory's functioning and research projects. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, physics or related science or equivalentcombination of education, training and experience Preferred Qualifications Research experience and a keen interest in microbiology and/or infectious diseases Experience in microbiology and the microbiome is desirable Other Requirements The candidate selected for this position is required to undergo a drug screening test prior to a final offer of employment being made Participation in the medical surveillance program Potential bloodborne pathogen exposure Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements Equal Opportunity Employer / Disability / Veteran Columbia University is committed to the hiring of qualified local residents.
