CLINICAL ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR, PUBLISHING New York University School of Professional Studies Center for Publishing and Applied Liberal Arts The NYU School of Professional Studies seeks a Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor of Publishing for the Center for Publishing and Applied Liberal Arts (PALA), effective September 2024. (The rank of the position will be determined based on the candidate's experience and qualifications.) The Center for Publishing and Applied Liberal Arts is actively seeking candidates who are d professionals with working experience in book publishing and digital media, who have the academic experience and ability to teach courses in book publishing and digital media. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Center for Publishing and Applied Liberal Arts, the successful candidate will work closely with the Academic Director to implement the vision for expanding the unit's publishing programs and initiatives, and to increase the Center for Publishing and Applied Liberal Arts's profile and visibility locally, nationally, and internationally. The successful candidate will teach within the graduate program in publishing; may also teach within corporate and executive education programs or the NYU Summer Publishing Institute; may teach in other programs in the division; develop courses; assist in online course design; evaluate syllabi, participate in faculty observations, advise students; collaborate with other faculty and industry partners; and engage with the broader NYU SPS academic community, as appropriate. Faculty members should have experience working with a diverse base of professionals and teaching a diverse population of students. This full-time position is a nine-month appointment with a two-year renewable faculty contract. About the Center for Publishing and Applied Liberal Arts The Center for Publishing and Applied Liberal Arts offers three graduate degrees : the MS in Publishing, the MS in Professional Writing, and the MS in Translation and Interpreting, as well as continuing education and certificate courses in a wide range of topics in the humanities, publishing, and storytelling, among other areas. The Center is at the forefront of publishing education , recognized globally for its innovative, practice-based curriculum, faculty of industry leaders, deep industry outreach, and experiential learning via internships, events, and international student opportunities. Offering multiple pathways to publishing, the Center provides students with the opportunity to enroll in a 36-credit graduate degree, the MS in Publishing, which recently celebrated its 25th anniversary at the NYU School of Professional Studies, or a four-week summer intensive, the Summer Publishi ng Institute . In addition, the Center offers an executive education course in book publishing, the NYU Advanced Publishing Institute; plus an annual program for publishers at the Sharjah International Book Fair. Its online MS degrees in Professional Writing and Translation and Interpreting are industry leaders and standard bearers. With a deep commitment to providing a wide range of industry events, conferences, and executive education programs in the US and globally, the Center for Publishing and Applied Liberal Arts provides accessible education on a global scale. About the NYU School of Professional Studies Founded in 1934, the NYU School of Professional Studies (NYUSPS) offers a broad range of degree and noncredit programs that are professionally oriented, integrate theory with real-world practice, and are taught by faculty members who are leaders and innovators in their fields. The School plays a critical role in workforce development in emerging and evolving sectors of industry in New York City and around the globe including: real estate; marketing and PR; technology and project management; global affairs; hospitality, travel, and tourism; human capital management; sports business; communications/media; publishing; professional writing; translation; and the arts, among others. The ideal candidate will (i) hold an advanced degree, preferably in publishing, writing, communications, humanities, or similar; (ii) have significant publishing industry working experience ; (iii) have at least three years of academic experience and effectiveness in higher education, (iv) have experience working with or teaching diverse student populations. Candidates should provide evidence of initiative i n curricular development, be comfortable teaching in-person and online, demonstrate an ability or potential ability to engage in meaningful service or administrative work, and Strong writing and communication skills are necessary.
