The Internal dosimetry position is to join BNL's radiation experts to provide operation excellence in invivo and invitro dosimetry and support regulatory compliance in radiation protection. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Provide professional and technical service for the whole-body counter (WBC) operations and as an internal dosimetrist. Perform daily functions to operate the whole-body counter, perform quality assurance and control of the detector, perform the invivo measurements. Provide logistic support to ship bioassay samples to contract laboratories. Review, verify and validate the invitro analytical results from contract laboratory. Calculate internal dosimetry intakes, effective doses and provide technical support to the internal dosimetry program. Support the invivo and invitro measurements to comply with 10CFR835, ANSI and DOELAP requirements. Provide technical review of the radioactivity and radiochemistry measurement protocols for the dosimetry program. Maintain QA/QC charts for WBC, LCS, blank sample results. Participate in intercomparison and blind testing of the samples. Develop statements of work for the analytical laboratory, complete the COC, analytical method, validate the results and generate reports of dose assessments. Perform dose assessments with IMBA, Hot Spot and Varskin software's to calculate the dose assessment. Support the review of DAC-hr facility monitoring program and assist in type and frequency of bioassay collection, methods, analytical protocols, and assessment of the facilities. Maintain the sampling protocols for bioassay programs to obtain defensible and reliable results. Maintain and enhance the DOELAP accreditation of the dosimetry program, hardware and software systems for optimal results and compliance. Track and resolve concerns, findings for DOELAP, internal assessments and quality assurance for Internal dosimetry. Review, implement and update the Internal dosimetry Technical Basis Document (TBD), Quality Assurance Plan (QAP) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in accordance with DOE and Radiation Control Division policies. DOELAP accreditation, quality assurance and personnel monitoring operations that are consistent with the DOELAP standards and occupational dose reports. Continuously improve upon the performance, efficiency, and quality of the monitoring program with 10CFR835, 10CFR830, ANSI/HPS standards, and DOE regulations and standards. Maintain the conduct of operations, logistic functions, including facilities, equipment, supplies to ensure quality of dosimetry program and dose report deliverables. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Bachelor's degree in radiation protection/ dosimetry/Health Physics/Nuclear engineering or equivalent. At least 3 years' experience in dosimetry implementation. Experience with nuclear detection instruments and systems. Well organized and problem-solving skills. Excellent teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills. Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 7 years' experience in dosimetry implementation. Current American Board of Health Physics (ABHP) Certification or equivalent certification. DOELAP accreditation assessment experience. Experiencing in dosimetry systems, dose calculations and technical implementation. OTHER INFORMATION: The selected candidate will be placed at the appropriate level based on the depth and breadth of relevant engineering knowledge, skills and experience. This is an On-Site position. Brookhaven National Laboratory is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. This is a multi-level role and t he full salary range for this position is $94250 - $155700 / year. Salary offers will be commensurate with the final candidate's qualification and experience, including skills, knowledge, relevant education, and certifications, and also aligned with the internal peer group.
