Physics Phoenix STEM Instructional Professor | University of Chicago (UC) - Military Veterans

The Department of Physics in the Physical Sciences Division at the University of Chicago invites applications for the position of Instructional Professor (open rank). The selected candidate will be appointed as Assistant Instructional Professor, Associate Instructional Professor, or Instructional Professor, depending on qualifications. The appointment will be for a term of up to five years, renewable. This is a career-track position with potential progression, competitive salary, and benefits, with time allocated for professional development. The expected start date is in the academic year 2024-2025. The terms and conditions of employment for this position are covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and the University. The selected candidate will be expected to contribute to the goals of the Phoenix STEM program, which includes increased persistence in STEM for all students, including first-generation and other historically under-represented student groups at the University of Chicago. The responsibilities of the position include teaching, developing and implementing collaborative learning sessions, advising, assisting with pedagogical development, and ongoing professional development. Ph.D. in Physics or a closely related field by time of appointment and at least one year of university-level teaching experience. Preferred qualification: Knowledge and experience in physics education research. At least one of these letters should address the candidate's teaching effectiveness.
