Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (0.4) - Military Veterans

The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) for general Pediatrics (Neonatal) practices in collaboration with the hospital Neonatologists. The NNP serves as an expert clinical nurse who utilizes specialized knowledge and skill obtained from advanced formal education and clinical expertise to promote optimum care of patients and families with acute neonatal issues. The NNP assesses the health status of the pediatric client (0-2 years of age) through interview, health history, physical examinations, and diagnostic tests. In collaboration with the physician, the NNP evaluates test findings, makes initial medical diagnosis, provides patient/family education, and initiates appropriate action to facilitate the implementation of the therapeutic plan consistent with the continuing health care needs of the patient. The NNP will participate in the provision of health care services for neonatal patients.

Services include, but are not limited to, patient admission, patient rounds, generation of progress notes and patient orders, and patient discharge. NNP activities will include staff development, research, and consultation. The NNP acts as a consultant to the patient/family, nursing staff, institution, and community in the area of neonatal needs. The NNP interrelates with all departments in the hospital as a voice for nursing where clinical expertise is required. The NNP collaborates with neonatologists using a Standard of Care Arrangement.

The NNP serves as an expert clinical nurse practitioner who utilizes the Synergy Professional Practice Model, specialized knowledge, skill, research, and competency acquired through advanced professional training to promote optimum care of patients and families withing the neonatal population. The PNP collaborates with nursing leaders in developing annual goals as they relate to the hospital mission statement.
