Location: Illinois Job Description: Job Summary: The University of Chicago Professional Education (UCPE) is dedicated to empowering learners with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to attain their professional goals. UCPE is collaborating with instructors with solid industry experience to develop or teach courses online for non-degree offerings that are responsive to learners professional needs and aligned with best practices in adult education.  UCPE is currently seeking qualified applicants for adjunct instructors to teach online courses in the Editing Certificate Program in 2024. Current University faculty, staff, and professionals working in relevant positions outside the University are eligible to apply. This is a part-time position. Programs in the following subject areas are of particular interest: Editing Copyediting and proofreading Developmental Editing Editing Electronically Grammar for Professionals Responsibilities:  Facilitate instruction according to syllabus requirements, including learning objectives, weekly topics, readings, and lesson plans for class content (lectures, exercises/activities, and/or guest presentations). Develop and execute class content (lectures, exercises/activities, homework assignments, and projects). Develop assignments and grading rubrics, which must minimally include assessment materials such as mid-term, final assignments, and course participation. Provide assessment for all assignments and activities as well as feedback, comments, and grades to students via the Canvas course site in a timely manner. Use Canvas, our virtual learning environment, for course management, content delivery, and student communication. For online instruction, adjunct instructors must plan and create content in conjunction with UCPE's online instructions and guidelines. Please note that adequate time and planning are required for this option. Available at least 1-2 hours per week outside the classroom to allow for adequate communication with students. Attend and conduct all synchronous sessions and meet the demands of the specific course format (hybrid, online) and support information sessions as needed. Fulfill administrative responsibilities related to course management, such as Canvas management, mandatory training sessions, meetings, etc. Education, Experience or Certifications: Education: Bachelor's degree required in relevant field. Graduate-level degree with a minimum of 7 years of professional experience is strongly preferred . Experience: Demonstrated in-depth expertise using the Chicago Manual of Style . Prior teaching experience with adult learners, especially within an online platform, is strongly preferred.
