Assistant Title IX Coordinator/Director of Title IX Compliance | University of New Haven - Military Veterans

The Assistant Title IX Coordinator/Director of Title IX Compliance reports to the Title IX Coordinator and will assist in the oversight of investigations, interim measures, and Title IX cases involving students. The Director of Title IX Compliance will assist with the Universitys compliance with Title IX, Title VI, Title VII, VAWA, ADA and other federal and state anti-discrimination laws, regulations and requirements for the University of New Havens main campus as well as its Prato campus.

This highly visible role is expected to assist in overseeing Title IX compliance and training efforts. The Assistant Title IX Coordinator will provide outreach to complainants and respondents, investigate as needed, and work closely with a group of investigators (comprised of other full-time employees of the New Haven community).

This position will support the Universitys efforts in providing a welcoming, diverse and inclusive learning and working environment. This position is eligible for a hybrid work environment once trained.

You will:

Assist in the oversight of investigations, interim measures, and Title IX cases involving students.

Assist with the Universitys compliance with Title IX, Title VI, Title VII, VAWA, ADA, and other federal and state anti-discrimination laws, regulations and requirements for New Havens main and Prato campus.

Assist in overseeing Title IX compliance and training efforts.

Provide outreach to complainants and respondents, investigate as needed, and work closely with a group of investigators (comprised of other full-time employees of the University of New Haven community)

Oversee prompt, effective, and equitable intake of reports; investigations; issuing of findings of fact, and timely resolution of all Title IX instances known to responsible employees and/or reported or filed students, faculty, staff, third parties, or by members of the broader community.

Meet with complainants and respondents in Title IX cases, provide referrals to support resources, policy information, conduct investigations, and assist with reporting options.

Provide and oversee ongoing student campus-wide training on Title IX regulations and requirements, with specialized training content for hearing officers/boards, investigators, campus public safety, and appeals officers.

Oversee and implement campus efforts aimed at the prevention of sexual violence and other forms of sex and/or gender-based discrimination as well as protected class discrimination and harassment.

Develop and disseminate educational materials (such as brochures, posters, and web-based materials) that inform members of the campus community Title IX, Title VI, Title VII, and other federal and state anti-discrimination rights, responsibilities and resources from the University and external campus partners.

Assist in oversight of all campus annual Title IX reporting as required by state and federal law, such as aggregate data reporting to Connecticut and Clery crime reporting.

Conduct the Title IX campus climate assessment.

Coordinate and ensure effective department-wide education, training, and outreach programming related to Title IX and Gender Equity for athletics staff and students.

Perform other job duties as deemed necessary by the Title IX Coordinator.

You Have:

Bachelors degree (required).

Two or three years of experience in Title IX and/or compliance is required.

Juris doctorate, counseling/mental health, higher education, human resources or advanced degree in related field is preferred.

Substantive Title IX training or certifications is preferred.

Working knowledge of relevant state and federal laws including Title IX, Clery Act, VAWA, and Campus SaVE, as well as experience with designing and facilitating programming and training for students in a higher education environment.

Experience contributing to an environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.

Experience facilitating difficult conversations on sensitive topics, such as sexual misconduct and sexual violence, with a high degree of discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality and professional relationships in dealing with sensitive and complex civil rights and legal issues.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Strong written and oral communication skills, interpersonal and relationship management skills, organizational and computer skills, as well as strong critical thinking, analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.

Demonstrative talent for listening as well as the ability to remain neutral and maintain a high degree of confidentiality.

Ability to understand, interpret, and apply applicable laws and policies.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment managing multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.

Ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations with cultural competence and sensitivity.

Ability to build trust and work collaboratively with a community of students, faculty, staff, administrators, and community partners.
