Adjunct Faculty: Mathematics and Statistics - Military Veterans

General Statement of Duties: The Department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science at Augsburg University invites applications for adjunct faculty positions to teach introductory courses in mathematics and statistics.

Teach one or two sections of introductory courses in mathematics and statistics such as Finite Mathematics (for Business students), Introductory Statistics, Quantitative Reasoning, Math for Elementary Education, Discrete Mathematics, Precalculus, and Developmental Mathematics. Available courses vary by term. Most classes are held during the day, 2-3 days per week. Some classes meet weekly in the evenings. In addition to teaching the class and grading student work, instructors are expected to respond to student questions through email, hold regularly scheduled office hours, reach out to students with course progress information, and communicate regularly with the course coordinator. A course syllabus with calendar, textbook and homework selection, sample activities and exams, and shared office space are typically provided. Most classes are taught in-person on our Minneapolis campus; some evening and summer classes are taught synchronously over Zoom. Each fall or spring semester course requires approximately 12-15 hours/week for 15-16 weeks. Teaching in-person is a union position, covered by a collective bargaining agreement with SEIU; pay starts at $4,750 per course. Pay for online classes starts at $4,250. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Candidates should be committed to student engagement and student success with a diverse group of learners.
  • A Master's in Mathematics, Statistics, Mathematics Education, or a related field is preferred. For most courses, licensure to teach Mathematics in Grades 9-12 is also accepted.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • The ideal candidate will have some experience teaching at the post-secondary level or significant experience teaching at the secondary level.
