BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE ARCHITECT - Military Veterans

at Navy Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM)

Job Summary: Responsible for designing and building database architectures and standards troubleshooting database architecture issues and implementing data warehousing technologies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Incumbents of this position must be U.S. Citizens.

- Designs data model for the data warehouse.

- Monitors and oversees schedules, ensures project is on track.

- Evaluates rules for data transformation, cleansing/reporting, query, data analysis and data mining software.

- Monitors industry trends and identifies emerging technologies.

- Identifies new data warehouse applications and makes proposals to management.

- Advises users and management on applications and data warehouse capabilities.

- Administers user access and security.

- Creates monitoring and preventive action systems for data maintained in the data warehouse.

- Performs system back-ups and restoration of data.

- Ensure/implement the rigorous application of Information Security/Information Assurance policies, principles, and practices in the delivery of Systems, Applications and/or Services (Hardware & Software).

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Information Assurance Workforce Certifications (IAM1 jobs):
SECNAV M-5239.2, DoN, Information Assurance (IA) Workforce Manual requires incumbents of this position to possess, and maintain current, one of the following Certifications:
GIAC Information Security Fundamentals (GISF), GIAC Security Leadership Certification (GSLC), Security , or one of the following higher level certifications:
Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), NEXCOM preferred certification is Security
Candidates without the required certification may be placed into this job, but must obtain the required certification within 6 months of appointment; failure to obtain this requirement will result in termination of employment.

This position is designated IT-2 (Non-critical Sensitive) in accordance with SECNAV M-5510.30 and will require a favorable Access National Agency Check and Inquiries (ANACI).

Requirements

Requires a total of 7 years:

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: 3 years of experience working with data warehouse systems, including data architecture, data models, ETL processes, BI, and reporting platforms.
Demonstrated the ability to work with business and IT to develop and maintain data warehouse platform vision, strategy, and roadmap

OR SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: One year of related academic study above the high school level may be substituted for 9 months of experience up to a maximum of a 4-year bachelor's degree in an information systems discipline for three years of general experience.

AND SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: 4 years of progressive experience in information technology.

- Applicants should have demonstrated experience in database warehouses, business analytics tools, and business intelligence.

- Applicants must have demonstrated technical abilities in building analytics solutions to extract insights from data and translate data to develop dashboards and other data visualization projects.

Preferred Experience: Database Administrator, Data Manager, or Data Scientist or experience in development or programming is also valuable.

The Navy Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM) is the headquarters for the worldwide NEXCOM Enterprise and is one of 11 commands under the Commander, Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP).

NEXCOM offers exciting opportunities to join a unique provider of goods and services to Navy Sailors and their families around the world.  We are a $2+B enterprise, operating over 300 Navy Exchange retail locations and 100 Navy Hospitality locations around the US and in 13 foreign countries, on nearly 100 Naval Bases globally.  Our NEX oversees the operation and management of retail stores, food services, hotels, auto shops, and other services.

NEXCOM oversees six primary business programs:

  • Navy Exchange (NEX) Retail Stores and Services
  • NEXCOM Hospitality Group
  • Uniform Program Management Office (UPMO)
  • Navy Clothing Textile and Research Facility (NCTRF)
  • Ships Stores Program
  • Telecommunications Program Office (TPO)

With the exception of the Ships Store Program, the NEXCOM Enterprise conducts its operations as a federal non-appropriated funded instrumentality. As such, the command is self-supporting with 70 percent of its profits given to Navy Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) programs and the remaining 30 percent reinvested in NEX buildings and equipment.

NEXCOM is a military organization and is subject to congressional legislation as well as oversight from the Department of the Navy. NEXCOM’s parent command is the Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP).
