Tufts Postdoctoral Fellowship in obesity in underrepresented groups | Tufts University - Military Veterans

The Tufts Institute for Global Obesity Research (TIGOR) announces a fellowship for research on any aspect of obesity relating to the health of underrepresented groups. Obesity continues to disproportionately affect certain racial and ethnic groupsparticularly Black Americans and Hispanics/Latinosand individuals with low socioeconomic positions. Research directed towards supporting improvements in obesity prevention and treatment is urgently needed. Tufts University has launched a cross-university institute, TIGOR , to advance obesity science for reducing the prevalence of obesity in national and international populations. This new fellowship will focus on clinical, translational, policy, or community-based research addressing obesity in underrepresented groups and issues of obesity-related disparities and inequities. A strong mentoring committee consisting of obesity experts in intervention science, epidemiology, population health, and the biology of obesity will mentor the chosen candidate in their specialization area, providing opportunities for first author publications and collaborations. Major emphasis will be placed on gaining skills for a successful independent research career, including leading original analyses and manuscripts, and other career development activities. Although the scholar will be appointed within the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy, they may affiliate with any of Tufts schools, including Arts & Sciences, Engineering, Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, and the Fletcher School. This fellowship is open to postdoctoral scholars, and MD fellows. Position available starting in mid 2021. The chosen fellow will be a member of a vibrant Tufts University and Tufts Medical Center community. Applicants must have a doctoral degree (PhD/DrPH/ScD) or MD before the start of the fellowship plus demonstrated interest in some aspects of obesity, including causes, treatment, and prevention. Candidates should have strong communication skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
