Addiction Medicine Physician University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics is seeking a board-certified psychiatrist who is also board-certified or board-eligible in Addiction Medicine by the American Board of Preventative Medicine, or in Addiction Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, to join our faculty and the University of Iowa Addiction and Recovery Collaborative (UI ARC). The appointment will be on the non-tenure clinical track, open rank. Primary responsibilities will include patient care on the Addiction Medicine Consult Service and in the Addiction Medicine Clinic, supervision of residents and medical students. The position is a 1.0 FTE and consists of 50% clinical time, 30% time providing education and outreach for the UI ARC, and 20% academic time, with the latter devoted to scholarly pursuits which may include research and teaching. The UI ARC is led by Alison Lynch, MD, MS and Andrea Weber, MD, MME. The UI ARC encompasses clinical services, education, research, and advocacy efforts in addiction medicine across the University of Iowa campus. Clinical services offered by UI ARC include a dual diagnosis partial hospital program, intensive outpatient program, extended outpatient program and relapse prevention, Medication for Addiction Treatment (MAT) Clinics that provide buprenorphine to treat opioid use disorder as well as other FDA-approved MAT medications, a Walk-In MAT Clinic, an Addiction Medicine Consult Service, buprenorphine initiation in the emergency department, case management, peer recovery support specialists, contingency management, individual counseling including telehealth counseling, group therapy for professionals in recovery, and services for people with opioid use disorder and/or stimulant use disorder who are reentering the community following a period of incarceration. UI ARC collaborates with the Iowa Neuroscience Institute to support research initiatives in addiction medicine across the University. Research programs include those focused on molecular biology, genetics, brain imaging, and clinical trials in substance use disorders. Additionally, the UI ARC is highly involved in community efforts to increase access to care and reduce stigma associated with mental health conditions including addiction.
