Pay Range: $17/hour. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

POSITION SUMMARY INFORMATION: DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS

Job Summary:

The Food Service Worker provides general labor for tasks related to food service and other tasks to ensure smooth operation of the shelter. Assists in the set-up and operations of food service areas.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Some of your duties may include:

  • Assists cooks in preparation and safe handling of food in mobile kitchen.
  • Assists leads in any of the preparation and safe handling of food or beverages.
  • Assists in the cleanliness of the serving, dining, and preparation.
  • Washes dishes and performs other general and assigned cleaning tasks.


Required Education, Certifications, Licenses, and Experience:
  • 1-year previous food service experience.
  • Must possess ServSafe® Food Handler certification.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to be compassionate and firm towards shelter residents.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with residents and other staff members.
  • Ability to use sound judgement and perform job duties with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent attention to detail to procedures, processes, and policies.
  • Must be able to work a 12-hour shift during the week including weekends and holidays.


Preferred Education, Certifications, Licenses, and Experience:
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).
  • Previous experience working in a shelter environment.


Work Environment:

Employees may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.

Physical Requirements:

Employees may be required to remain in a stationary position, stand, push, pull, climb, kneel, crawl, balance, squat, bend, and reach during shifts. Employees may also be required to use gear to move items around, including, but not limited to, carts and dollies. Employees may also be occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 49 pounds.
