Position Title: Assistant/Associate/Professor, Doctor of Physical Therapy Program (3 positions) School/Division: School of Health Professions and Human Services Full Time/Part Time: Full-Time Description: The Doctor of Physical Therapy ( DPT ) Program at Hofstra University invites applications for three tenure-track, core DPT program faculty positions at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor. These are 12-month full-time positions which include teaching, scholarship, and service responsibilities, with start dates of January 1, 2024, September 1, 2024, and January 1, 2025. Reporting to the Director of the Physical Therapy Program, the faculty member teaches courses and content within their areas of expertise. Faculty are expected to demonstrate active engagement in scholarship and dissemination of scholarly work that contributes to the profession. Service expectations include instructional development, academic advising, participating in program, departmental and university-wide committees, and other appropriate responsibilities. The physical therapy faculty share a passion for quality teaching, scholarship and service to the community and profession. We have a commitment to maintaining a low student to faculty ratio, and protection of faculty time for scholarship, service, and clinical practice. These new faculty members will join the team at an exciting time. The DPT program recently moved to newly renovated faculty office space and a new research and state-of-the-art instructional spaces. Spaces support diverse teaching and scholarship agendas through a variety of cutting-edge resources and equipment including VICON motion analysis with an eight-camera system, GAITRite system, Bertec force plates, CORTECH brain flow measurement system, and Virtualis' virtual reality system. Hofstra University has a strong presence in education of varied health professionals in the Long Island region (see Hofstra University's School of Health Professions and Human Services for more details). Qualifications: Earned doctoral degree in physical therapy ( DPT ). A minimum of 3 years of experience in physical therapy clinical practice but an individual with less than 3 years of experience with outstanding academic performance (e.g., enrolled in PhD or similar degrees), scholarship achievements, or clinical achievement (e.g., board certified) will be considered. Licensed or eligible for physical therapy licensure in the state of New York. Commitment to excellence in physical therapy teaching and education. An evidence-based focus and growth mindset. Excellent communication skills with colleagues and entry-level DPT students. Evidence of productively working with teams of people. Demonstrated commitment to promoting equity, diversity and inclusion in an educational environment. Preferred Qualifications: Earned terminal doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent academic doctoral degree) in Physical Therapy, Health Sciences, or related field. Enrolled in Post-professional degree or interest in enrolling in Post-professional degree (i.e., PhD, EdD, DHSc, DSc, ScD). Board certification in a physical therapy area of specialization. Teaching experience in a doctoral physical therapy program. Established record of scholarship. Evidence of commitment to develop a focused successful research project as an independent investigator. Actively involved in the physical therapy profession or interest in becoming engaged in the APTA and its academies and/or chapters.
