Adjunct Faculty: Computer Science - Military Veterans

The Department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science at Augsburg University invites applications for adjunct faculty positions to teach introductory Computer Science courses during the 2022-2023 academic year. Responsibilities include teaching one or two sections of introductory courses and/or labs in Computer Science such as Introduction to Computer Programming (Python), Introduction to Object-Oriented Programming (Java), or Information Security and Assurance. Available courses vary by term. Most classes are held during the day, 2-3 days per week.

In addition to teaching the class and grading student work, instructors are expected to respond to student questions through email, hold regularly scheduled office hours, reach out to students with course progress information, and communicate regularly with the course coordinator. A course syllabus with calendar, textbook and homework selection, sample activities and exams, and shared office space are typically provided.

Most classes are taught in-person on our Minneapolis campus; some evening and summer classes are taught synchronously over Zoom. Each fall or spring semester course requires approximately 12-15 hours/week for 15-16 weeks. Teaching in-person is a union position, covered by a collective bargaining agreement with SEIU; pay starts at $4,750 per course. Pay for online classes starts at $4,250. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Candidates should be committed to student engagement and student success with a diverse group of learners.
  • A Master's in Computer Science or a related field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • The ideal candidate will have some experience teaching at the post-secondary level or significant experience teaching at the secondary level.
