Job Summary
The individual selected for this position will assist with ongoing land and facilities management responsibilities for the College of Agriculture, including (but not limited to) construction duties, planning and completing projects, and operating heavy equipment and machinery.Temporary assignment to assist with ongoing general maintenance of College of Agriculture and AAES facilities and land/properties.
Temporary Employment Services (TES), a unit of the Auburn University Department of Human Resources, is an in-house support center established to meet the temporary employment needs of the university. TES provides qualified and dedicated temporary employees in a wide variety of occupations to meet the staffing needs throughout the campus. Temporary employees are hired for a variety of reasons with the most common being:
- Assistance in the place of a regular employee who is absent for a specified period of time
- Additional assistance during periods of abnormal or peak workloads
- Assistance with special projects
- Seasonal work
- Emergencies

Essential Functions
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Operates heavy equipment such as tractors, backhoes, bulldozers, excavators, trenchers, forklifts, etc. used for various construction projects on university property and may also drive semi-trucks.
- Excavates, grades, and resurfaces fields and surfaces at various job sites.
- Builds/renovates structures and support structures to include ponds, greenhouses, pole barns, and other buildings.
- Assists in the planning and estimating of department construction projects.
- May perform welding and plumbing functions in support of local facilities. Loads and transports materials from one location to another.
- May be occasionally required to travel for out of town and/or overnight work.
- May apply various pesticides to plants, shrubs, and trees.
- Repairs and maintains equipment and vehicles ensuring that they are in proper working condition.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience in operating heavy machinery and/or construction practices
Desired Qualifications
Knowledge/experience within essential functions desired.

Auburn University was established in 1856 as the East Alabama Male College, 20 years after the city of Auburn's founding. In 1872, under the Morrill Act, the school became the first land-grant college in the South and was renamed the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Alabama. In 1899 the name again was changed, to the Alabama Polytechnic Institute. Finally, in 1960 the name of the school was changed to Auburn University, a title more in keeping with its location, and expressing the varied academic programs and larger curriculum of a major university.
Today, Auburn is one of the few universities to carry the torch as a land, sea and space grant university. Our fall 2014 semester enrollment was 25,912. Our students can choose from more than 140 degree options in 13 schools and colleges at the undergraduate, graduate and professional levels.
