Senior Architect Program Planner | Yale University - Military Veterans

  1. Responsible for the planning of complex, multi-phased projects and programs valued at half a billion to over a billion dollars. 2. Develops planning models based on the needs of the department and institutional priorities, refining projects parameters and priorities, identifying scope and budget. Provides information and sets recommendations on physical and comprehensive planning and design issues, large scale planning studies, and special facilities planning topics. 3. Manages planning and technical programmatic issues. Determines compliance to standard planning practices, University standards, and departmental policies and procedures. Determines the conformance of planning activities to established goals and project requirements and recommends corrective action if necessary. 4. Leads the resolution of planning conflicts. Develops planning models and solutions based on the needs of departments and institutional priorities. Resolves conflicting issues of design contract, schedule and limited funding. Resolves technical problems. 5. Manages the selection of consultants. Manages and reviews the progress of quality of the work performed by outside and in-house consultants. Manages the work efforts of external architects and engineers. 6. Establishes priorities for the allocation of design resources and ensures conformity with specifications, codes, regulations, and University standards. 7. Participates in budget development confirming that institutional planning objective and strategies are incorporated into departmental plans and projects. 8. Provides information and recommendations for final decision making on physical and comprehensive planning and design issues, large scale planning studies and special facilities planning topics. 9. Ensures projects at all phases are completed on a timely manner, within budget, and in conformity with applicable codes and zoning ordinances. 10. May perform other duties as assigned. Required Skill/ability 1: Proven ability to develop planning solutions and participate in the resolution of planning and technical issues on large multi-phased projects, of over 1/2 billion dollars when recommending cost effective options and approaches. Ability to synthesize technical programmatic needs, develops alternative planning solutions to use as tools for establishing design. Required Skill/ability 2: Proven knowledge of architectural, engineering and construction technology, theory, practices, and principles. Demonstrated ability with institutional lab buildings, historic structures, large-scale capital construction programs and project management responsibility. Knowledge of building codes, zoning ordinances and related regulations. Required Skill/ability 3: Knowledge of project development and execution and budgeting. Knowledge of financial practices including capital and strategic planning, life-cycle cost analysis. Ability to use CAD, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office Suite. Required Skill/ability 4: Well-developed organizational, analytical, oral and written communication and managerial skills and the ability to process multiple projects, set priorities, and work independently to meet objectives. Ability to establish priorities and follow through on projects paying close attention to detail with minimal supervision. Required Skill/ability 5: Excellent verbal & written communication skills. Ability to function successfully & collaboratively with members of the academic & scientific communities to understand & discuss specific lab research & academic needs. Ability to work within a project team structure. Manage & review the progress & quality of the work performed by consultants. Preferred Education: Experience with medical laboratory/research, institutional/academic, and clinical/outreach buildings and large-scale construction programs. Master's Degree in Architecture, Planning and/or Construction Project Management.
