Job Summary: The BerbeeWalsh Department of Emergency Medicine (DEM) at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health (UWSMPH) is seeking a physician scientist to join our team in conducting high-impact clinical, translational, and health services emergency care research. Our research enterprise includes a range of transdisciplinary research programs with extensive federal and foundation grant support. Responsibilities: Research Program: The successful applicant is expected to develop and maintain a strong, extramurally funded research program; publish data-driven manuscripts in high-impact journals to disseminate research findings; speak at national and international research conferences; effectively mentor trainees and faculty members; and/or serve in leadership roles for governmental and professional organizations. These accomplishments should lead to invitations to participate as visiting professor at other institutions; invitations to prepare book chapters and books; and internal and external honors. Clinical responsibilities: We seek an Emergency Medicine physician to deliver patient care at DEM clinical sites. The University Hospital is a regional referral center and the emergency department (ED) cares for the highest acuity and most complex patients. We care for diverse communities across our multiple clinical sites in Madison. The EDs are staffed with an excellent team of skilled and compassionate advanced practice providers, nurses, technicians, social workers, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, case managers, and care coordinators who are similarly dedicated to providing the highest quality of care. Education: Faculty in DEM are actively committed to educating learners. Faculty teach undergraduate and graduate students through classes and supervised research experiences. Faculty teach medical students by participating in and leading UWSMPH courses and tracks as well as supervised clinical care. Resident physicians are similarly taught through both supervised clinical care and didactic, small group, and simulation activities. Service responsibilities: The successful applicant will participate in service activities, including attending required meetings and conferences such as faculty meetings and educational conferences; completing administrative requirements; and participating on important committees consistent with the shared governance model at UWSMPH. Overall, non-clinical effort is expected to at least be on par with clinical effort. The successful applicant will participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health. An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members. The title is determined by the experience and qualifications of the finalist. Candidates for associate or full professor rank must meet criteria for appointment at rank per UWSMPH guidelines for appointment and promotion on the tenure track.
