Job Summary and Qualifications
The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) is responsible for coordinating the care of and the transportation of infants from referring facilities. Must be educated in flight and ambulance treatment modalities, altitude physiology, general aircraft and ambulance safety, and emergency procedures. Utilizes advanced nursing process for assessment, diagnosis, planning and implementation and evaluation of patient care. They must document patient response to interventions and outcomes. Collaborates with referral teams, AirLife and the physicians in the planning and delivery of care. Uses advanced knowledge of pathophysiology and technical skills to provide management of the neonate in referral centers and on transport, including lab/x-ray interpretation, intubation, line placement, thoracentesis, throacotomy, and intraosseous access. Delegates appropriately to nurses and other team members. Demonstrates advanced leadership abilities through nursing judgment, decision making and problem solving skills. Acts as an advocate for clients/family members and the referral team. Maintains a professional demeanor through conduct, appearance and communication. Demonstrates knowledge of health care economics through cost effective utilization of resources.
- Demonstrates good organizational skills. Provides safe and appropriate patient care within the Practice Privileges for HCA and AirLife. Displays appropriate judgment and problem solving skills. Communicates positively and professionally with all internal and external customers
- Graduate of accredited School of Nursing and must have a current RN licensure. Must have graduated from a formal nurse practitioner program that grants master’s degree, post master’s certificate or doctorate degree and hold a current Advanced Practice License (NNP)
- Three years minimum of Neonatal Intensive Care nursing at a tertiary care facility. Prefer previous Neonatal Critical Care Transport experience. Able to articulate and demonstrate knowledge of nursing theory and practice. Able to articulate and demonstrate knowledge of critical care transport.
- Current licensure in the State of Colorado as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse. BLS, NRP and PALS certifications required at time of hire. Neonatal Pediatric Transport Certification (C-NPT) within 2 years of hire. Must maintain all certifications throughout employment.
