Summary Direct hiring authority for 1550 series is being used to fill this position. Responsibilities This series includes professional positions which primarily involve the application of, or research into, computer science methods and techniques that involve the security of computer operations in cyberspace. This encompasses the full range of threat reduction, vulnerability reduction, deterrence, international engagement, incident response, resiliency, and recovery activities for computer network operations, information assurance, securing agency information systems and communication infrastructure. Requirements of the work are professional competence in applying the theoretical foundations of computer science, including the security of computer system architecture, computer communications, system hardware/software and the representation and transformation of information structures. BASIC REQUIREMENT: Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions. Evaluation of Education: Applicants should have sufficient knowledge to understand the fundamental concepts and techniques of computer science. Courses designed to provide an introduction to computer science techniques and methodologies, to problems of system design, and other specialized fields are acceptable. Courses or experience in teaching elementary, business, or shop mathematics are not acceptable. In addition to the above basic requirements: FV-H. To qualify at this level, you must demonstrate possession of at least 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the FV-G (FG/GS-05-09) level. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized Experience may include but is not limited to: experience in conducting threat, risk and vulnerability assessments of surface surveillance systems, weather and/or navigation systems and associated programs throughout the National Airspace System (NAS). Responsible for a variety of complex cybersecurity projects involving the modification and modernization of software/firmware systems etc. OR Education; Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. FV-I. To qualify at this level, you must demonstrate possession of at least 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the FV-I (FG/GS 10-12) level. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.. Specialized experience may include but is not limited to: experience initiating protective or corrective operations if system security problems are identified; experience with software design and development of complex automation systems; performing software maintenance and developing and maintaining computer software applications; and/or developing, executing and documenting test procedures on software systems. FV-J. To qualify at this level, you must demonstrate possession of at least 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the FV-I (FG/GS-13) level. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience may include but is not limited to: responsibility for a variety of projects providing national level cybersecurity guidance and the use of software development tools, techniques, and sound testing methodologies; direct interaction with customers in requirements analysis, system implementation, and development/delivery of technical guidance for system users; and responsibility for independently analyzing/resolving a wide variety of user problems and system failures involving difficult functional and technical challenges in environment of integrated electronics systems requiring reliability and safety. FV-K. To qualify at this level, you must demonstrate possession of at least 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the FV-J (FG/GS-14) level. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience may include but is not limited to: Experience using technology, experimental and modeling to identify safety issues and conducting risk assessments of air traffic systems, airspace redesigns, engineering and procedural changes; evaluating and assessing security risks threats, and vulnerability of airspace or air traffic systems and computer hardware performance; and skill conducting operational risk assessments of complex NAS computer architecture, communications and software systems.
