Summary Direct hiring authority for 1301 series is being used to fill this position. Responsibilities Positions involve professional work in the physical sciences when there is no other more appropriate series, that is, the positions are not classifiable elsewhere. The incumbent works under the direction of a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced technical specialist in conducting research and analysis. Applies experience and knowledge applicable to research methods, analysis and techniques (e.g. modeling, programming, applied statistics, decision analysis, and data visualization) in support of the organizational/program initiatives. A) Degree: Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. OR B) combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, applicants must also meet the qualification requirements listed below. FV-H. Education. 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. OR Specialized Experience. At least one year (52 weeks) of specialized equivalent to,the FV-G pay band (or FG/GS-5 thru 9 grade level or equivalent in other pay systems) that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the work of the position being filled. Examples may include but are not limited to: experience in working across multiple disciplines in order to conduct research and analyses; experience working with aviation weather research activities, programs, and/or projects. FV-I. Specialized Experience. At least one year (52 weeks) of specialized equivalent to the FV-H pay band (or FG/GS-10-12 grade levels or equivalent in other pay systems) that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the work of the position being filled. Examples may include but are not limited to: experience analyzing, developing, and/or implementing aviation technologies, policies, and procedures; experience with technologies and/or policies and determining how they can be employed to improve operations. FV-J. Specialized Experience. At least one year (52 weeks) of specialized equivalent to the FV-I pay band (or FG/GS-13 grade level or equivalent in other pay systems) that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the work of the position being filled. Examples include but are not limited to: utilizing programming and database (or similar) query models; performing analysis to identify and understand an issue or event; investigates evident issues through drill-down exploration and descriptive statistics. FV-K. Specialized Experience. At least one year (52 weeks) of specialized equivalent to the FV-J pay band (or FG/GS-14 grade level or equivalent in other pay systems) that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the work of the position being filled. Examples include but are not limited to: experience identifying existing or potential program deficiencies and effectively communicating program outcomes; experience leading critical and technologically complex aviation project of significance to the aerospace industry.
