Overview

The Life Cycle Engineering Department supports the design, construction, and test of in-service Navy DDG 51 and DDG 1000 surface combatants in multiple locations around the world. This position supports both the Planning Yard Test Program and emergent HVAC testing and balancing tasking for ships in service.

The scope of responsibilities includes:

  • Review of ship alteration SIDs, Liaison Action Requests (LAR), and Reverse LARs, for impact to test note requirements, and develop GSO compliant test notes and test procedures.
  • Providing HM&E test requirement support to fleet, PY home port teammates and RMCs during ship availabilities.
  • Review 2 Kilos for test requirements affected by the repair and develop test procedure or test notes to suit.
  • Maintain repositories of new construction test procedures and update to suit specific modernized ship configuration.
  • Participate in ship visits to perform HVAC Grooming and balancing for ships in service.
  • Interface with all PY supervisors, Engineers, work leaders, and Designers in the local office and at PYs offsite locations including contractors, ships force, and Navy waterfront managers.

Responsibilities

  • High School Diploma or GED Required
  • BIW Graduate Apprentice (Design or Production) or demonstrated requisite technical experience required.

Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Design and testing of US Naval Combatants. Demonstrated familiarity with shipboard construction and testing activities.
  • Familiarity with shipboard HM&E systems required. Working knowledge of ventilation systems and collective protection system desired.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret diagrams, schematics, blueprints/drawings, and equipment technical manuals required.
  • Demonstrated strong attention to detail with proven ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel required.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and meet schedule demands required.
  • MS Excel and MS Word skills required, proficiency using MS Access desirable.
  • In support of HVAC work scope, the ability to obtain a security clearance is required.
    • This position requires you to be able to obtain a government security clearance. You must be a US Citizen for consideration and you must be able to obtain an interim security clearance within the first 45 days of hire.
