We are currently seeking a motivated, career and customer oriented Business Analyst to join our team in Washington, DC, to begin an exciting and challenging career with Unisys Federal Systems.
Position Summary:
In this role you will document customer business functions and processes. Consult with functional unit management and personnel to identify, define and document business needs and objectives, current operational procedures, problems, input and output requirements, and levels of systems access. Act as a liaison between departmental end-users, technical analysts, information technology analysts, consultants and other governmental organizations in the analysis, design, configuration, testing and maintenance of systems to ensure optimal operational performance. Analyze the feasibility of, and develops requirements for, new systems and enhancements to existing systems; ensures the system design fits the needs of the users. Track and fully document changes for functional and business specifications; writes detailed universally understood procedures for permanent records and for use in training. Identifies opportunities for improving business processes through information systems and/or non-system driver changes; assists in the preparation of proposals to develop new systems and/or operational changes. Read and interpret case management systems and functional technical literature and translates in terms understandable to the end-users. Plan, organize and conduct business process reengineering/improvement projects and/or management reviews of court-wide significant or specific to a court division. (Examples are projects requiring strategic analysis of an entire process or operating area where specific issues or items to be corrected, examined or recommended have not been identified. Recommended solutions should be developed in consultation with impacted internal and external stakeholders, but should remain objective and independent of the specific stakeholders.) Develops policy and procedures to improve efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and/or improve internal and external customer service; develops information system documentation to support efficient operations; prepares reports and written findings and recommendations; and monitors changes. May serve as team lead overseeing one or more business analysts on the contractor side.
Responsibilities:
- Guide the client through joint application design sessions to collect new business requirements.
- Identify and develop use cases based on client requirements.
- Verify requirements through analysis, test, demonstration and inspection.
- Lead and analyze business processes/systems, identify inefficiencies and required controls, document procedures, and track KPIs.
- Manage requirements through review and approval session, where project schedules, costs and duration estimates are updated and the business objectives are revisited.
- Collaborate with internal and external users/customers to elicit business concerns and develop workable solutions.
- Work with the QA team to prepare test scenarios and data.
- Document and manage business and functional requirements.

- Participate in planning initiatives, feasibility studies, cost/benefit analyses, and new systems design.

- Provide functional solution and clarification on the inter-module dependencies.
- Provide thought leadership in one of the functional areas, handle queries and competency building in respective functional area.
- Determine a project’s requirements by extracting them from business or government policies, as well as from current and future users, through interaction and research.
- Anticipate future requirements to achieve successful outcomes.
- Constrain requirements when necessary and focus on core business needs, rather than users’ personal preferences, functions related to trends or outdated processes, or other non-essential modifications.
- Organize requirements into related categories to effectively manage and communicate them.
- Translate business requirements into technical requirements. This includes using powerful analysis and modeling tools to match strategic business objectives with practical technical solutions.
- At regular intervals in the project life cycle, safeguard and protect the business and user’s needs by verifying functionality, accuracy and completeness of the requirements against the original documents. Safeguarding minimizes risk by ensuring requirements are being met before investing further in system development.
- Emphasize simplicity and ease of use at all times, especially in implementation.
- Identify and avoid extraneous activities that do not solve the problem or help reach the objective.
- In application maintenance, the focus is on preventing and correcting defects; enhancements, or making changes to increase the value provided by the system.
- May lead a small team of business analysts or direct activities of others on the project depending on size and scope.
Requirements
Position Requirements:
- Bachelors Degree and a minimum of 6 years of relevant business experience or equivalent blend of education and experience.
