Senior Production Planner (6807) - Military Veterans

Reporting to the Supply Chain Manager, the Senior Production Planner will be located at the company’s headquarters and primary manufacturing location in Plymouth Meeting, PA (Greater Philadelphia area).

The Senior Production Planner is responsible for creating and maintaining a valid master schedule for material and capacities by effectively balancing supply and demand for product. A valid master schedule is aligned with the operating plan resulting from Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) and is the basis for detailed manufacturing schedules, which are executable on the shop floor, level loaded, and optimize capacity utilization and inventory. Developing, implementing, and improving on master scheduling processes, tools, and systems in collaboration with the materials team and the plant organization is a key element of this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyzes demand and supply at the item, customer, and master schedule levels, determines out-of-balance conditions, identifies alternatives and recommends actions for approval
  • Works with sales, marketing, and manufacturing to better understand competitive lead times for master scheduled items, seeks ways to reduce internal lead times, as well as lead times to the customer
  • Conducts rough-cut capacity planning prior to publishing a master schedule in which significant changes have occurred
  • Summarizes daily and weekly master schedules for released orders and compares these to the operating plan to ensure that the master schedule is aligned with S&OP commitments
  • Works within policy guidelines pertaining to master scheduling; observes and follows all stated master scheduling procedures
  • Identifies, negotiates, and resolves conflicts with respect to material and capacity availability and order-promising integrity
  • Informs management when demand cannot be met and recommend alternatives on how the requested demand could be satisfied
  • Creates a master schedule that satisfies customer demand while leveling work being released to manufacturing and optimizing inventory levels and resource utilization
  • Creates a master schedule that can be used for detailed material/capacity planning as well as financial planning
  • Establishes a working relationship with all company functions
  • Maintains scheduling parameters, such as lead times, lot sizes, and cycle times. Liaise with engineering to ensure appropriate labor, machine, and scrap standards are used in master scheduling
  • Reviews each master scheduled item daily

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Operations Management, Engineering or Chemistry preferred but not required
  • Prior chemical purchasing/inventory control experience
  • Familiar with manufacturing chemical plant operations
  • A minimum of 3 years experience in Production Planning in an industrial Manufacturing environment;
  • Previous experience in Master Scheduling/Capacity Planning

Knowledge – Skills – Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication, and presentation skills
  • Interpersonal skills to collaborate at various technical levels, with individuals in other business functions, and with the potential to function in a supervisory role
  • Must possess strong analytical, project planning, organization, prioritization, and decision making skills.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and ERP systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex materials issues within the company
  • Highly skilled in data analysis, manipulation, and presentation, to include software skills with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access
  • Strong understanding of the business systems and processes used in support of the above functions
  • Previous experience implementing Master Scheduling in a small plant preferred
  • Experience with lean manufacturing preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative and matrixed team environment
  • Fluency and proficiency in the practical application of MRP logic, scheduling logic, order policies, capacity planning, input/output control, product structures, routings, and standards maintenance

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in a chemical manufacturing plant environment.
  • Might require occasional travel domestically and internationally.
  • Occasional overtime will be necessary
