Environmental Safety Officer | The Ohio State University - Military Veterans

As part of Facilities Operations and Development, Environmental Health, and Safety (EHS) assists the university community in providing and maintaining a safe and healthful work environment for students, faculty, staff, contractors, and visitors. Reporting to the Manager of Occupational Safety and Industrial Hygiene, this team member provides support to the EHS compliance program, program staff and exemplifies the universitys shared values. Duties include but are not limited to assisting with Occupational safety and industrial hygiene programs such as: Developing, maintaining and assisting with the implementation of safety compliance programs. Ensuring necessary inspection and audit activities are completed as required. Acting as a representative of Environmental Health and Safety in interactions with the campus community Collect data, analyze and create solutions to ensure employee safety and regulatory compliance. Responsibilities Supports the planning, implementation and assessment of occupational health and safety programs and processes. Assists the university in maintaining regulatory compliance with Ohio Public Employee Risk Reduction Programs. Acts as a liaison to University Health Services (Employee Health) by establishing relationships, providing access to employee health records, appointment scheduling, and assisting university employees with obtaining required medical surveillance. Supports the university respiratory compliance program. Conducts respirator fit testing and coordinates medical clearance with the Occupational Wellness team. Performs jobsite safety audits and consults with shop personnel to perform any necessary corrective measures. Utilizes general industry knowledge and professional experience in the application of concepts, principles, and technical capabilities to perform various safety related activities. Develops safety training literature (newsletter articles, safety briefs, etc.). Assists with occupational safety related sampling including sound measurements, indoor air quality and water quality sampling. Assists with incident and near miss investigations and the development of corrective actions. Participates in safety related continuing education and professional development. Operates a variety of industrial hygiene monitoring equipment (i.e. Sound Level Meter, Combustion Gas Meter, Blackline Multi Gas Detector) to conduct field safety evaluations. Develop, implement, and audit compliance programs based on university needs and regulatory requirements. Other administrative duties, as needed, including records management, auditing, and reporting as required by federal, state, and local regulations and university policies. Work Environment Working hours are 7:30 am to 4:30 pm M-F. Participates as a member of the EHS Emergency Response Team; and subject to 24-hour call-in response to emergency situations. Requires participation in medical surveillance program, including clearance for respiratory protection. Requires appropriate security clearances as determined by regulation and the University. This position requires completion of a criminal background check. Standing, walking, sitting, typing, carrying, pushing, bending. Work is conducted in both an indoor office setting as well as outside field work. Environmental conditions will vary. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree and 2 years of relevant experience in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent combination of education and experience. Basic understanding of Occupational Safety Health Administration and Environmental Protection Agency regulations Experience preparing technical reports and professional correspondence including the ability to draft, edit, and produce a variety of documents such as data analysis, training manuals, and compliance reports. Excellent verbal/written communication skills. Valid driver's license. Successful completion of background investigation and continued compliance with applicable security plans. Desired Qualifications Knowledge of data management systems or willingness to learn and obtain the skill. Thorough understanding of federal, state, local and applicable rules and regulations. ASP or CSP certification. Target Salary Range: $53,800 - $71,700 Career Level: S2
