Administrative and Events Coordinator About The Department of Economics The Economics Super-Department comprises over 60 faculty, postdoctoral candidates, and scholars, along with 375 majors and 100 Ph.D. students, serving over 5,000 students annually. It operates within three colleges: the College of Arts & Sciences (CAS), the School of Industrial and Labor Relations (ILR), and the Jeb E. Brooks School of Public Policy (Brooks). Reporting to both CAS and ILR, the department's resources and personnel are distributed among these entities. The Opportunity The Administrative and Events Coordinator will oversee all event logistics and provide administrative support within the department. Responsibilities include organizing various events such as workshops and conferences, as well as serving as the primary contact for inquiries regarding departmental matters. Additionally, greeting and directing visitors will be a key aspect of the role. Key Responsibilities Coordinate schedules for appointments between faculty, graduate students, and invited speakers using Google Docs. Organize conferences, including logistical arrangements such as venue booking and participant communication. Manage available offices and rooms within the department, coordinating their use for events and visiting speakers/scholars. Create posters and flyers, and post seminar/workshop announcements on department bulletin boards, website, and the University Events calendar. Maintain the department's key inventory and supply inventory. Assist with incoming and outgoing mail for the department. Maintain and update faculty and staff office and mailroom nameplates. Assist faculty with exam copying, scanning, and other administrative tasks as needed. What We Need A resume and cover letter are required for further consideration. High School Diploma and 2 to 4 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, with the ability to learn new systems. Experience in or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing. Ability to cultivate inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work effectively with others and maintain a high level of confidentiality. Self-starter with the initiative to complete detailed tasks with minimal supervision. If you have all those things, great! We have a few more things that we would prefer you to have, but it's ok if you don't. Bachelor's Degree is strongly desired. Experience working in an office setting. Knowledge of Cornell systems, including proficiency with Cornell's Concur travel and reimbursement system. Familiarity with Cornell Procurement and Travel & Meal business cards, as well as eShop procurement systems. This is an ongoing full-time (39 hours/week) endowed, benefits eligible position that is based in Ithaca, NY and fully on-site. Work hours are 8am-4:30pm Monday through Friday.
