Review more information at BNL | Benefits Program The Camp Counselor is responsible for planning, leading, and implementing programs and experiences for children in a group setting. They will also be responsible for the general safety and development, growth, and skill achievement of the participants in their group. The incumbent will provide high-quality outdoor educational and recreational experiences for eight consecutive weeks, July 1st - August 23rd. Dates and Hours: July 1st, 2024 to August 23th, 2024 plus Staff Training and Orientation prior; Closed weekends. Closed Thursday, July 4 and Friday, July 5. Hours: 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM. There is an opening shift from 7:30 am - 3:30 pm and a closing shift from 9:30 am - 5:30 pm. Essential Responsibilities Organize and lead a variety of group activities each week. Activities may include crafts, nature, archery, gymnasium games, field games, baseball, and indoor crafts and games. This includes spending time on the bus. Identify and respond to camper behavior issues. Ensure that the facilities are kept clean, organized, safe, and litter-free. Communicate with parents about participants' experiences and report concerns to the Recreation Supervisor. Assist in maintaining accurate program records including incident reports, logbook documentation, and daily attendance. Know and understand all emergency procedures at Brookhaven National Lab as associated with the BERA Recreation Camp Program. Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the camp and all program areas. This includes but is not limited to being responsible for camper's safety and their whereabouts. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Must be available for eight consecutive weeks, July 1st - August 23th. Previous experience as a camp counselor is required. Previous experience with teaching sports and camp-like activities is preferred. Valid NYS driver's license. Ability to lead, plan, organize, and implement program activities. Ability to work as a member of a team and to accomplish tasks with minimum supervision. Strong organizational and communication skills. Complete CISIVE background check. Upon hire, completion of BNL Guest Site Orientation or other training requirements, including check/re-check at the Occupational Medical Clinic, as noted by BNL/BERA. Environmental, Health, and Safety Considerations: Must have the physical ability to lead and participate in camp activities, including hiking, swimming, team-building initiatives, physical games, and activities. Must be able to withstand outdoor working conditions, including summer heat and humidity. Salary offers will be commensurate with the final candidate's qualification, education and experience and considered with the internal peer group.
