Please note, this is a hybrid role requiring in office attendance 2-3 days per week in Chicago, IL.

Key Responsibilities:

The role of United Airlines Principal Architect – Cloud FinOps will be responsible for developing and implementing the program(s) supporting Cloud Cost Management and Asset Governance. This will include optimizing cloud spend and ensuring efficient financial operations across United’s cloud partnerships.

The role involves collaboration with finance and technology teams to drive cost-effective cloud utilization.

  • Strategy and Direction – Develop and implement strategies for CCM (Cloud Cost Management) and optimization

  • Optimization - Supervise and analyze spend to identify trends and cost saving opportunities

  • Services – Partner with engineering teams to understand resource utilization and recommend cost-effective solutions

  • Partner/Software Evaluation – work with procurement and finance partners to evaluate solutions and negotiate with Cloud providers

  • Operations – Establish and enforce Cloud FinOps (Financial Operations) policies for cloud spend

  • Drive the adoption of FinOps practices across the organization

  • Build KPIs to measure success

  • Risk Management – Evaluate risks (security, compliance, etc.) and operational inefficiency

  • Compliance – Ensure compliance with financial regulations and company policy as it pertains to cloud investments,

Qualifications

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field

  • Knowledge of FinOps Principles and Practices

  • Solid grasp of Cloud Services and Pricing Models

  • 5 years AWS Cloud experience

  • 2 years FinOps

  • 7 + Years of related experience

  • Excellent Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills

  • Effective Communication and Interpersonal Abilities

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Master's degree Finance, Business Administration, or related field

  • AWS Solution Architect or Equivalent

  • Demonstrable experience in Financial Management, preferably in Cloud Computing related area

  • Experienced People Leader

  • 3-5 years FinOps

  • Effective Presentation Skills

  • Technical proficiency in visualization/reporting tools (PowerBI, Tableau, etc.)
