Lecturer 10 Mths - Theatre & Dance (Acting) | SUNY Fredonia - Military Veterans

The Department of Theatre and Dance at the State University of New York, Fredonia, invites applications for a full-time lecturer in acting. This position is secured by a one-year contract and is renewable annually. The salary range for this position is $48,386-$53,396.

The lecturer position is responsible for supporting three degree programs (BFA in Acting, BFA in Musical Theatre, and BA Theater Arts) and a Theatre Minor. Duties include teaching undergraduate courses in Acting and Directing for both B.F.A. and B.A. programs and other departmental courses based on the candidate's qualifications. The successful candidate will also direct productions within the department's mainstage season. Preference may be given to candidates with additional professional experience and teaching expertise in areas such as acting styles, Shakespeare, musical theatre, dialects, accents, or other aspects of theatre essential for students' development as influential practitioners and entrepreneurs. The successful candidate will assist the department with advising and recruitment/retention activities, as well as serve on departmental and campus committees as necessary.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance, the successful candidate will:

Teach courses in the department's acting sequence (B.A. and B.F.A.), and other performance skills as applicable and qualified (directing, voice, movement, specialized acting techniques);

Teach in the university's general education program as requested;

Assist and advise students with acting and performance work outside of class time;

Mentor students through recitals and other performance projects;

Participate in the department's governing process by attending department meetings and serving on committees as assigned;

Participate in ongoing curricular development within the department;

Participate in the recruitment and auditioning of student applicants to the department, including auditions;

Participate in the assessment of students through juries, recitals and other projects;

Encourage a positive work environment by achieving high standards in order to best educate the student actors;

Demonstrate a strong commitment to collegiality and possess the ability to foster departmental synergy;

Respect and participate in the educational process;

Demonstrate commitment to diversity and the needs of diverse learners;

Be aware of, understand, and follow all university policies.

This is a full-time, temporary lecturer position beginning Fall 2024.The salary range for this position is $48,396-$53,396.

Visa sponsorship is notavailable for this position. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

MFA or PhD in a Theatre or Theatre-related discipline from an accredited institution by August 2024;

University Teaching Experience;

Directing Experience at the University Level or Professional Level;

Acting experience the University Level or Professional Level;

Demonstrated commitment and ability to work with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff and constituents in support of both the campus and department's mission.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

3 or more years of university teaching experience;

Knowledge and experience with various approaches to actor training (e.g. Stanislavski, Meisner, or Voicework);

Experience in Community Engagement in the Arts and/or Independent Theatre Productions.
