We are looking for a talented student to join our team for our School To Work , Engineer in Troy, MI.


In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:


The Cummins-Meritor Cooperative Education Student who is pursuing a bachelor’s degree of Mechanical Engineering. The student works in support of the engineering department by applying knowledge from academic studies, interfacing with project engineers, test labs, production manufacturing facilities, and several internal engineering groups. The intern works under close supervision to learn about aspects of engineering that they can apply after graduation.



  • Support engineers in the development of products including; T-case, front drive steer axles, bevel wheel end product, and independent suspension axle product.

  • Perform engineering analysis necessary for the production design and testing of axle/suspension components and systems, utilizing CAE tools such as CREO, Simulate, Ansys, etc.

  • Support all aspects of engineering to meet customer requirements with focus on project timing, product design, test plans and prototype builds.oJob may require lifting and moving parts required for testing.

  • Work with designers to release detailed drawing packages.

  • Establish good working relationships with team members, external suppliers, and various internal groups.

  • Other activities required by the manager


To be successful in this role you will need the following:



  • General understanding of static analysis, and familiar with fundamentals of dynamic and kinematic studies.

  • Understanding of vehicular drivetrain components and their application.

  • Technical knowledge of vehicle performance criteria.

  • MS Office – Excel, Word, PowerPoint.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Goes beyond task completion, demonstrates a proactive and analytical mindset by actively engaging in understanding the underlying principles of assigned projects and proposing insightful improvements.

  • Demonstrates capability and knowledge of basic mathematics and sciences.

  • Demonstrates written and oral communication skills, including presentation creation.

  • Strong teamwork and ability to interact with all levels of the organizations.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.


Education, Licenses, Certification



  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • Post-Secondary:

  • Must carry a minimum of 12 credit hours during the fall and spring semesters.

  • Must have a minimum of 2.5 GPA.


Compensation and Benefits


Base salary rate commensurate with experience. Additional benefits vary between locations and include options such as our 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan, Cash Balance Pension Plan, Medical/Dental/Life Insurance, Health Savings Account, Domestic Partners Coverage and a full complement of personal and professional benefits.
