Adjunct Instructor of Communication Studies, Beginning Academic Year 2024-2025 (POOL POSTING) | Ohio University - Military Veterans

Job Description: Ohio University Regional Campuses are seeking part-time instructors to teach a COMS 1030 – Fundamentals of Public Speaking course at the undergraduate level. The exact number of Instructors needed is undetermined at this time as it is primarily dependent upon enrollments and changing programmatic needs. When a need arises, the department will select qualified candidates from this pool. Specific in-person need on the regional campuses includes COMS 1030 (Fundamentals of Public Speaking) . The COMS 1030 course covers the Fundamentals of Public Speaking and develops understanding of theories and skills related to successful communication in the presentational speaking context. Through the use of interpretive and rhetorical methods, students understand meaning, context, culture, diversity, ethics, research, and language in the development and delivery of informative and persuasive speeches that are informed by and adapted to desired audiences. Positions will include teaching from 3 credit hours to up to 11 credit hours per term. There is a future possibility for various delivery modes including in person/face-to-face, hybrid or via technology. This is not a remote position. This is a part-time position eligible for sick leave and retirement benefits. Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in Communications, Communication Studies, or closely related field at time of application and a cohesive set of 18 semester credit hours of discipline relevant graduate course work. Preferred Qualifications: Statement on teaching philosophy and experience with teaching of writing.
