The Physics Department of the Naval Postgraduate School invites applications for a faculty associate position with experience in weapons effects model development and refinement. Applicants should have both computational and hands-on experience with explosives and other energetic materials. Applicants must possess an MS in Physics or Physical Chemistry and have a significant work history in the field of explosives.

The Physics Department at NPS has a long history of excellence in weapons effects, in which it has active research programs. This position is expected to support existing research programs in weapons as well as lead and develop new lines of research for DoD sponsors.

An MS in Physics or Physical Chemistry.

Experience in computational quantum mechanical modeling for energetics, particularly with density-functional theory.

Experience with programming languages such as Python and MATLAB, or equivalent.

Extensive practical experience with explosive handling (i.e., DoN certified explosives handler, military explosive ordnance disposal, civilian blasters license, or equivalent).

Previous experience in US Navy weapons and ordnance handling is a strong plus.

Must possess or be eligible for a Secret clearance.

S. citizenship required.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Applicants with foreign

education will be required to select from a list of private organizations that are members

of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. (NACES), which

provide foreign education evaluations acceptable to NPS.
