Research Coordinator - Seeking Medical Student - ENT - Takashima - Military Veterans

JOB SUMMARY

As a highly competitive position, the two selected candidates can expect an exceptional opportunity to gain additional knowledge and skills in Otolaryngology. The candidates should be ready to provide key technical support in many of the new/ongoing clinical research projects. It is expected that the ideal candidates will be able to organize and carry out multiple clinical research projects throughout the year. The applicants will perform an essential role in study strategy, IRB submission, data collection, statistical analysis, and manuscript writing. The objective will be to obtain peer-reviewed publications and/or presentations at scientific conferences. Excellent organizational and writing skills are required. The clinical/research associates will also assist the primary investigators in performing clinical duties as well as support multiple active clinical trials in the department at the Houston Methodist Hospital.

As of a result of where Houston Methodist is located, the ideal candidates could potentially benefit from opportunities of collaboration with extraordinary clinicians and researchers across the Texas Medical Center. This is also a great opportunity to gain exposure to our Houston Methodist Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery residency program, through operating room exposure, clinic setting, and didactics. Applicants are required to have a working knowledge of word processing and basic spreadsheet functions in Microsoft Excel. Highly competitive applicants will have experience with electronic medical records (Epic), data management software such as Excel and RedCap. Our current research fellow has been involved in 30 clinical projects and is expected to have 15-20 publications from his work during his research year.


You will be expected to work with all the faculty and residents within the department of Otolaryngology. You will also work with Tariq Syed (research coordinator) and the other research fellow in a collaborative manner.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

PEOPLE - 20%

  1. Under the direction of higher level staff, conducts screening and interviews to evaluatepatient eligibility in study. (EF)
  2. Promotes a positive work environment and contributes to a dynamic, team focused work unit that actively helps one other to achieve optimal department results. Collaborates with all members of the patient care team by actively communicating and reporting pertinent information as it relates to assigned system(s) in a comprehensive manner. (EF)
  3. Provides contributions towards improvement of department scores for turnover/retention/employee engagement. (EF)

SERVICE - 20%

  1. Responds promptly and accurately to customer complaints, inquiries, and requests for information and coordinate appropriate follow-up calls and/or appointments. (EF)
  2. Schedules research subject appointments for tests and procedures, such as laboratory tests, x-rays, and other studies specific for the research protocol. (EF)
  3. Compiles patient information, process, document and enter accurate information in Source Documents, Case Report Forms, Electronic Data Capture portals and Clinical Trial Management System following established procedures. (EF)

QUALITY/SAFETY - 20%

  1. Maintains records for clinical study and regulatory documents. (EF)
  2. Under the direction of Research Nurse/Clinical Trial Manager/Physician, captures and reports Adverse Events (A/E) or Serious Adverse Events (SAE) to necessary regulatory authorities. (EF)
  3. Assists management with research records and regulatory maintenance. (EF)

FINANCE - 20%

  1. Uses resources efficiently; does not waste supplies. Evaluates and reports on inventory levels. Self-motivated to independently manage time effectively and prioritize daily tasks. (EF)
  2. Maintains inventory of supplies necessary for the study. (EF)

GROWTH/INNOVATION - 20%

  1. Maintains working knowledge of the research process and in the conduct of IRB approved research protocols. Follows International Conference on Harmonisation (ICH)/Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines. (EF)
  2. Seeks opportunities to expand learning beyond baseline competencies with a focus on continual development. Completes and updates the My Development Plan on an on-going basis. (EF)
