Position Summary Columbia Business School has been pioneering business practices and educating leaders from around the world for over a century. This role will provide a unique opportunity for a highly talented, team-first professional with a passion for working with students to become part of a world-class, Ivy League institution as a member of the high-energy, mission-driven Career Management Center (CMC) department. Reporting to the Executive Director, Career Education & Advising (CEA), the Senior Associate Director works as part of a 12-person team to advise and educate the Business School???s 1,600 full-time MBA students. She/he/they conducts individual advising sessions with, and not limited to, industry-aligned assigned MBA students and occasionally Executive MBA and MS students and Columbia Business School alumni, and creates and delivers innovative career educational programming, including large classroom, small group, experiential learning, and special events, and via e-learning media such as webinars and instructional videos. Responsibilities Coaches MBAs on complete range of career planning and job search issues. Researches and develops advising programs and job search initiatives for those who are using the MBA to facilitate a career change. Educates students on all recruiting opportunities and procedures. Develops, co-manages, and delivers relevant career educational programs, meetings, and seminars, often in conjunction with other CEA team members. Trains and manages student leaders or outside consultants for these programs as needed. Provides administrative support and managerial participation for each project. Creates and delivers market-driven workshops on an as-needed basis. Works with Executive Director, Career Education raining, scheduling, and evaluating instructors, both internal and external; manages contributions of other CEA team members. Teaches training sessions and workshops as needed. Performs data collections and analyses and gathers actionable student feedback to advise Executive Director, CEA, and Director, Employer Relations on development of policies and procedures related to recruiting as well as on individual student issues. Supports Employer Relations team by contributing to annual employer meetings and engaging key alumni and recruiters to effect any necessary changes and enforce existing and new policies. Develops and maintains key relationships with select professional student clubs, industry-related Centers and Programs, Columbia Coaching Program, Executive-in-Residence Program, and select faculty. Provides as-needed industry support, including classroom presentation and/or participation, as needed and appropriate. Represents office in interactions with industry professionals from the private and public sectors. Participates in all-office events and initiatives, including on-campus recruiting and departmental monthly meetings. Represents office in interactions with a wide range of internal and external constituents, including faculty, Dean???s office, Executives-in-Residence, other School and University administrators, and professionals from the private and public sectors, as needed. Maintains and updates on-line resources pertinent to areas of expertise, including industry/function-specific and job search platform skills. Maintains and continually upgrades personal and office knowledge base in areas pertinent to MBA employment. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor???s degree required. Minimum 4-6 years??? experience required, preferably with management, business, and/or student counseling experience. Must have a demonstrated deep commitment to customer service and the ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and excel in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. Ability to balance independent delivery of work with collaborative orientation. Outstanding interpersonal/relationship management and superior writing, verbal, interactive facilitation, and presentation skills for a variety of constituents, including students, faculty, staff, alumni, and corporate employers. Superior business and political acumen, demonstrated leadership, organizational, and project management skills, and demonstrated initiative to influence and drive change required. Proven track record in prioritizing competing priorities and collaboration skills, including the ability to integrate and act upon diverse perspectives. In-depth understanding of MBA jobs in at least one MBA target industry; an understanding of, and appreciation for, needs and concerns of a diverse MBA student body. Significant knowledge of, and experience using, technology and tools, including MS Excel and PowerPoint; familiarity with CRM tools a plus. Basic data analytics capability. Ability to work flexible, long hours, and early mornings/late evenings as needed to meet student needs and represent Career Management Center, on behalf of Sr. Associate Dean. Ability to travel when requested (up to 5% of time). Preferred Qualifications Candidates strongly preferred to have 5+ years of related experience in the technology, venture capital, financial services, and/or consulting sectors, as well as a strong understanding of the MBA recruiting processes and nuances. Startup and entrepreneurial experience and/or diversity, equity, and inclusion experience a plus. Demonstrated advising experience in either a corporate or academic setting strongly preferred. MBA or master???s degree in counseling or higher education field strongly preferred. Experience working in highly competitive MBA environments with a diverse student body; experience at a research-level institution also preferred.
