What You Will Do
The US DOE Office of Science Isotope Program develops isotope products and regularly produces and purifies radionuclides for a wide applica ti on spectrum in industry and research. It also has a strong radioisotope chemistry R&D mission. We are seeking outstanding candidates for a postdoctoral posi ti on in radiochemistry to perform laboratory research involving the produc ti on and purification of main and transition element radionuclides, as well as short-lived ac ti nide isotopes. The successful candidate will be joining an experienced team of chemists and physicists within LANL's Chemistry Division.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

• Formal academic training in separation chemistry or analytical chemistry

• Hands-on experience with radioac ti ve materials in a laboratory setting; experience with gamma spectrometry, IR, ICP-MS, ICP-OES

• Willingness and ability to work with high dose rate materials

• Demonstrated ability to carry out independent and collabora ti ve research, as evidenced by at least one first-author papers submi tt ed to or published in peer-reviewed journals

• Strong technical and interpersonal communica ti on and language skills, both orally and in wri ti ng

• Crea ti ve and proac tiv e approach to scien ti fic problem-solving

• Proven ability to meet research deliverables and deadlines

• Proven ability to work in a mu lt idisciplinary research team

• Must submit cover letter as outlined on Notes to Applicant

• Individual must be able to obtain a DOE Q clearance, which generally requires U.S. citizenship (see DOE Order 472.2 for additional information).

Education: PhD in chemistry completed within the past five years or soon to be completed. Must be completed before hiring.

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience in one or more addi ti onal chemistry discipline(s): synthetic inorganic or organic chemistry, physical chemistry, spectrometry

• Experience in hot cell operations and telemanipulator handling

• Experience in nuclear reac ti on, DFT or quantum-mechanical modeling

• Experience with data analysis using software tools such as IDL or Matlab

• Proven contribu ti ons to successful research proposals

Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
