What You Will Do
The Eulerian Codes Group (XCP-2) in the X-Computational Physics (XCP) Division is seeking talented and motivated postdoc candidates. The Eulerian Codes Group is responsible for developing and maintaining large scale, massively parallel multi-physics codes used in national security applications. This appointment will focus on development and implementation of a new hydrodynamic method and high explosive model including detailed reactive flow/chemical kinetics for high explosive safety applications. The successful candidate is expected to work in a team environment with computational scientists, theoreticians, and experimentalists, become familiar with production software carpentry practices, and publish results.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Technical Knowledge

For this role you must have knowledge and experience implementing numerical methods.

Software Engineering & Design

You will need to have proficiency with modern Fortran, C, C++, or Python.

Collaboration

Teamwork is essential to the success of our group. As such you will need to have demonstrated the ability to function effectively in a team environment with a willingness to learn new skills and be flexible in work assignments. This includes exhibiting professional conduct in interactions with co-workers and supervisors.

Education/Experience

Position requires a Ph.D. in applied mathematics, physics, engineering, or a closely related field completed within the past five years or soon to be completed.

Communication

Communication skills are critical in our group. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.

Clearance

This position requires the ability to obtain a DOE Q Clearance, which typically requires US Citizenship.

Desired Qualifications:

High Performance Computing

Experience with massively parallel numerical development and simulation, and experience deploying numerical algorithms to heterogeneous computing architectures.

Multiphysics Simulation Software

Candidates with experience modeling highly-coupled physics experiments for compressible flows, numerical methods for solving systems of partial differential equations, or experience deploying numerical algorithms to future computing architectures will be given preference.

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Q Clearance: Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances.Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances.See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
