Job Summary Under the supervision of the Custodial supervisor, applies advance knowledge of cleaning and floor care techniques and performs a variety of custodial duties required to maintain campus buildings and student housing areas clean, orderly and safe. Essential Job Duties In coordination and cooperation with other trades and shops, performs various custodial assistant duties that include but are not limited to the following: Performs work in accordance with Institute safety standards and regulatory agencies (e.g., OSHA, EPA and CDC guidelines). Operates floor care equipment such as scrubbing, steam and rotary machines to scrub, strip, wax and polish floors and to shampoo carpeting and upholstered surfaces. Washes interior windows, light fixtures and walls. Polishes furniture, woodwork and metal surfaces. Clean water features (ex: decorative water fountains). Removes trash containers by hand or cart to disposal areas including recycling containers. Requires the ability to work at heights while changing lights or washing interior windows. Must be available to work overtime when required and perform all other assigned duties. Basic Qualifications High School education or equivalent. Ability to communicate and follow verbal and written instructions. At least 1-3 years of floor care experience or working as a custodian in a fast paced educational or commercial environment. Must be familiar with custodial hand tools, floor care equipment, and advanced cleaning techniques. Ability to walk, push, pull, climb, twist, stoop and bend to accomplish job requirements on a consistent basis. Mus be able to lift/carry 50 lbs. on a regular basis and ability to work at different heights. Must be able to work overtime, including weekends when required. A valid California Driver's license, or be able to obtain one before employment begins and maintain it throughout the course of employment is required. Responds to campus emergencies and may be asked to work different shifts when needed to complete special projects. Requires a physical examination prior to an offer of employment. Preferred Qualifications Minimum of five years of experience in floor care and custodial field (industrial or commercial). Possess a forklift operator's certificate. Operates forklifts and trucks for moving equipment throughout Campus facilities.
