The D'Angelo Law Library seeks a collaborative, future-oriented specialist in empirical research and academic scholarship for the Research and Data Services Librarian position. Reporting to the Associate Director for User Services at the D'Angelo Law Library, the Research Data Services and Services Librarian creates and delivers programs to support data-driven research in law. As the home of the law and economics discipline, the University of Chicago Law School faculty engage in interdisciplinary, innovative empirical research. Through collaboration with the Law School's research centers, including the Coase-Sandor Institute of Law and Economics, this position supports faculty research and provides reference expertise in the discovery and use of data resources in empirical legal scholarship. The Research and Data Services Librarian participates in Library-wide discussions and collaborations on data services for research, monitors and communicates about issues in scholarly services for law researchers, and works to support data management, research data preservation, and open access to scholarship. In addition to supporting empirical legal scholarship, the Research and Data Services Librarian works with Library and Law School colleagues to ensure D'Angelo's development and maintenance of the Law School's repository, Chicago Unbound, the ongoing discovery and curation of scholarship in the faculty citation database, and the sharing of faculty publications content from the repository and the database. The Research and Data Services Scholarship Librarian serves as a member of the D'Angelo reference team, provides in-person and virtual reference assistance, provides training, and creates and maintains guides and other resources for researchers. As part of the D'Angelo Law Library User Services department, the Research and Data Services Librarian provides outstanding research and learning services to the Law School and University communities. The D'Angelo Law Library contributes to the academic and scholarly success of the University of Chicago and Law School communities by providing rich collections and resources, maintaining a premier scholarly environment, and delivering superior library services. D'Angelo's collections are among the world's finest for law research and enable comprehensive access to legal scholarship and interdisciplinary resources. D'Angelo occupies five floors in the central tower of the Law School's Laird Bell Quadrangle and is a valued partner in the Law School's community of scholarship, teaching, and learning. The D'Angelo Law Library is part of the University of Chicago Library system, working cooperatively with other campus libraries to ensure rapid access to print and digital collections, research and study spaces, and expansive services. D'Angelo team members foster and maintain a collaborative, inclusive, and supportive workplace culture to provide the highest level of service to the prolific and evolving University of Chicago Law School and University communities. Required: Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school, a graduate degree in the social sciences or a related discipline, or a Master's degree in library science or graduate library degree from an ALA-accredited library school Experience with data research tools, statistical analysis software, and empirical research methodologies in law or social science disciplines Knowledge of law sources and databases as evidenced by relevant course work, work experience, or other related experience Knowledge of and experience working with relational databases, including the ability to extract data, run queries for information, and generate reports Preferred: Awareness of current issues and trends regarding scholarly communications, institutional repositories, and rights management Knowledge of current and emerging trends in legal scholarship and law publications Experience performing legal research Excellent communication, organizational, and planning skills; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with faculty, students, and staff about data and technical matters Evidence of initiative, a strong user service philosophy, the ability to maintain good relationships with colleagues and work in teams, and a commitment to continuous improvement and innovation Previous experience working in a law library Teaching or training experience Knowledge of computer programming languages and experience writing computer code and scripts Demonstrated knowledge and experience in project management Knowledge of one or more non-English languages To Apply: Submit cover letter, curriculum vitae, and reference contact information online through the University of Chicago's Academic Recruiting website: http://apply.interfolio.com/120353 .
