Pediatrics Post Doctoral Fellow - Devaskar Lab University of California Los Angeles Requisition Number: JPF07506 We are seeking an experienced Ph.D. for a post-doctoral fellowship in the laboratory of Dr. Sherin Devaskar, MD. Applicants need to have Ph.D preferably in molecular/cellular biology/genomics, or related fields, to conduct experiments and data analysis in identified pre-clinical and/or clinical investigations, willing to generate results towards formulating grant applications for extramural funding, and working collaboratively within a team present in the laboratory. The projects in the Devaskar Laboratory are focused on elucidating mechanisms and processes responsible for placenta-fetal/neonatal origins of chronic disorders such as obesity, diabetes and neuropsychiatric conditions. The Devaskar laboratory has developed various murine models towards understanding the impact of the placenta on the development of the offspring, with a particular focus on neuro-phenotypic differences and mechanisms. Qualifications: Doctor of Philosophy in Biology or related field of study Solid understanding of molecular biology and common laboratory approaches in molecular biology/genomics - data analysis Excellent verbal and written communication skills Self-motivated, enthusiastic, works well with others Skills: DNA, RNA and protein extraction, PCR, western blots, tissue culture Mouse handling Clinical sample handling Meticulous laboratory technique Working knowledge of laboratory notebook management and data management Duties and Responsibilities: Conducting research as determined with Principal Investigator (PI) Mouse handling, processing of human cells and tissues Publish results of independent laboratory research in collaboration with lab PI, including writing of scientific manuscripts, abstracts and other supporting documentation Participate in laboratory and Divisional seminars, meetings, educational sessions, general and specific safety training and other training sessions Provide mentorship and teaching undergraduate and summer students.
