Position Title: Network Engineer, Network and Communication Services Posting Number: P220399 Employer: State Salary Range: $75,000 - $80,000 FTE: 1.00 Position Summary: The University at Buffalo seeks a forward-thinking technology leader for the position of Network Engineer. As a Network Engineer, you will provide technical knowledge and advice to design solutions and solve problems, including installation, testing, and evaluation of new hardware, software, monitoring, and support of systems utilized across the University's local, wide area, and wireless networks. In this role you will: Possess an expert current knowledge of data networking concepts and have a history of developing new and practical solutions to meet customer requirements Ensure the system security and reliability for the campus enterprise network infrastructure Be responsible for supporting and maintaining university wide information technology services, including, but not limited to routers, switches, firewalls, VPN , and wireless infrastructure Prioritize and schedule work on multiple simultaneous projects, tasks, service requests, and service problems Maintain current information regarding software and hardware for relevant computing platforms, network infrastructure, applications, procedures, and techniques. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree with 3 years of experience OR master's degree with 1 year of experience in: Supporting and maintaining information technology services, including, but not limited to routers, switches, VPN's, wireless infrastructure, and documenting installation procedures Managing and performing network systems upgrades, installations, and reconfigurations in support of development and production services Hardware/software firewalls and their management platforms Project management A combination of education and experience will be considered Preferred Qualifications: Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field In-depth knowledge of network component operating systems (router, switch, firewall OS's), Domain Name Service, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, Internet Protocols (IPv4 and IPv6), Network Address Translation technologies, Quality of Service, Software Defined Networks, and network routing protocols Extensive wireless experience including designing, managing, upgrading, and troubleshooting, wireless networks along with troubleshooting a wide variety of wireless clients Provided consulting on network application techniques, configurations, hardware, and software solutions, VLANs, firewalls, routers, switches, wireless systems, network authentication and authorization, routing protocols and security implementations Deadline for Applicants: Open Until Filled Quicklink for Posting: 38667
