Research Technician I, Zhao/Barth Lab - Military Veterans

The Mellon College of Science (MCS) is home to four departments and many programs and research centers that cross disciplines. We approach scientific problems from fresh angles using creative interdisciplinary approaches while drawing on our departmental strengths in the core sciences. MCS faculty members are nationally and internationally recognized for their research in a variety of fields, including polymer science, cosmology, mathematical finance and neuroscience.
The laboratories of Dr. Alison Barth https://labs.bio.cmu.edu/barth/ and Dr. Yongxin Zhao https://labs.bio.cmu.edu/zhao/ in the department of Biological Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University are seeking a highly motivated individual to fill a joint position for a Research Technician I for tissue imaging projects. These projects aim to apply Expansion Microscopy (ExM) to acquire high resolution 3D images of mouse brain tissues and human pathological specimens. The ideal applicant does not need to know ExM but should have considerable experience in fluorescence microscopy and general wet lab bench techniques. This is a dynamic opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment.
Your core responsibilities will include:
- Perform research experiments following protocols and procedures.
- Maintaining accurate and detailed research records and files.
- Oversee general laboratory maintenance.
- Summarize statistical information for analysis and presentation

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in any of the STEM fields
- 1 to 3 years of laboratory experience
- Strong oral and written communication skills required
- Strong problem solving and reasoning skills required
- Or a combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated
