Job Description:

Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Design Manager to join our team!

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Completes highly-technical, difficult, and complex design assignments within one discipline, generally utilizing either 2D or 3D CAD methods. Technical skills gained from education/training and experience over many years enable this level of Designer to work independently and complete the most demanding design assignments. May serve as Lead Designer on a small to medium-sized project.




SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Completes the most complex and difficult designs and layouts for complete systems and components of a project. Assignments typically involve design elements for which there may be no clearly established precedents and require anticipation of problems at the outset in order to provide appropriate solutions.

Performs front-end layout and design of complex systems and equipment applicable to the respective discipline.

Ensures compliance with required specifications, tolerances, safety factors, and client requirements.

Performs specialized design computations and analysis within a given discipline.

Performs interdisciplinary reviews and provides coordination of data to ensure a compatible design.

Understands and applies commonly used company design standards and methods. May assist in the establishment or revision of guidelines and standards.

Reviews supplier data and supplier/manufacturer drawings, as required.

Checks orthographic (2D) and isometric (3D) drawings prepared by others. May provide direction to a team of checking personnel, ensuring the mathematical accuracy of the drawings produced.

Collaborates with Engineers and other engineering disciplines to ensure quality of design.

Assists in training lower-level Designers in various procedures.

May serve as Lead Designer on a project, ensuring compliance with industry codes, as well as project and company standards. May prepare manpower estimates, as required.

Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

Supervision Received - Project Designer; Supervising Designer; Engineers
Supervision Given - Lower-level Designers (technical guidance only)
Internal Contacts - All Employees on Project
External Contacts - Clients; Suppliers; Fabricators


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

2-year technical degree or certificate of completion from an accredited designer/drafter course (or equivalent) is preferred, and typically 10+ years of related experience. Experience in a lead role is preferred.


SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:

Requirements include strong PC and CAD skills, as well as efficiency in utilizing computer software to complete design assignments.
