Salary Range: $31.92 - $36.21

Position Summary

Supports a variety of activities and initiatives related to community engagement and government relations in Weill Cornell Medicine's Office of External Affairs.

Job Responsibilities

  • Prepares letters, biographical summaries, memos, weekly reports and content for internal and external publications including print and online newsletters.
  • Drafts content related to government and community affairs for internal and external communications such as Dean's Letter, Fellows orientation materials, board reports, etc.
  • Provides organizational and logistical support for the institution's Board of Fellows External Relations Committee and Community Advisory Board.
  • Organizes tours of campus with visiting dignitaries, elected officials, and other VIP's.
  • Manages branded and co-branded items in connection with community events - reviews designs, distributes and manages inventory, coordinates purchases, etc.
  • Monitors and flags important government-related news items and writes on-the-spot summaries for awareness and action purposes.
  • Uses Blackbaud CRM database to maintain demographic/biographic information on community groups, committees, and contacts.
  • Completes community research and provides support and staffing for the City-Wide Community Relations Strategy.
  • Assembles, delivers, maintains, and archives briefings for meetings and presentations both delivered to and by senior administration.
  • Schedules internal/external meetings including with community groups and elected officials. Coordinates and manages committee meetings, which would include taking minutes, preparing meeting materials, arranging audio-visual and refreshment.
  • Maintains the calendars of the Executive Director of Government and Community Affairs and the Associate Director of Federal Relations.
  • Engages with community partners and other such collaborators to produce STEM education and public health education opportunities.
Education
  • Associate's Degree
Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • 1-2 years of related work experience.
  • Previous work experience in Community and Government Relations is a plus.
  • Experience in government or community affairs highly desired.
  • Experience working for a medical center a plus.
  • Previous experience working with constituent management databases preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent writing skills, high degree of attention to detail, superior organizational skills, strong communications and inter-personal skills.
  • Demonstrated interest in community and government relations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office Suite and database applications.

    • Some evening and weekend work.
    • Some travel within New York City.
    • Some weight bearing activities such as transporting event-related materials and supplies.
