Job Description Summary

The Sponsored Programs Analyst is responsible for the preparation of proposals and negotiation of contracts and agreements with companies, non-profit organizations, governmental agencies, and universities and provides support to departments, faculty, and staff for proposal, award, and agreement processing.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

1. Negotiate contracts and agreements that provide funding and other forms of support for University research, education, service, and outreach activities.
2. Independently negotiate disputed contractual terms and conditions to reach mutually acceptable conclusions.
3. Identify risks and liabilities and minimize the impact on the University when negotiating contracts, ensuring that the terms and conditions comply with University policies, federal and state laws, and sponsor guidelines.
4. Serve as liaison between departments and other entities including companies, governmental agencies, non-profit entities, and universities.
5. Ensure University compliance with conflicts of interest, export control, and IRB/IACUC policies relating to proposal and award processing.
6. Counsel, advise, and assist faculty and staff with proposal and budget development for externally funded projects.
7. Review proposals and budgets for submission, assuring compliance with University policies, federal, state and sponsor guidelines.
8. Contribute to the development, review, and implementation of new policies and procedures and agreement standards.
9. Participate in special projects and other assigned duties to further department goals.

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities have been acquired

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

• 3 years of experience processing proposals and awards with governmental agencies, non-profit organizations and/or companies
• Experience composing and/or negotiating contract and agreement terms and conditions
• Knowledge of federal and state guidelines for grant and contract administration
• Experience using personal computers and basic software packages including word processing, spreadsheet, and database software

Desirable Education and/or Experience

• Experience processing proposals and awards with the US Department of Defense, US Department of Energy, and state agencies
• Experience processing proposals and awards using Cayuse research administration software
