The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Office of the Dean provides direct support to the Climate School Dean in advancing school-wide priorities, strategic initiatives, and partnerships. In addition to providing administrative and executive support to the Dean, the team coordinates across the Dean?s leadership teams to ensure that the Dean has the necessary information/recommendations to make the best decisions possible in advancing the School's mission and priorities. The Dean?s office also builds connections, alignment, and coherence across the School?s functions and administrative leadership team. Under the direction of the Associate Director of Strategic Initiatives and Partnerships, the Variable Hours Officer will support the various workstreams and special projects with an emphasis on events and convening and when needed, also partner with the Senior Director of Communications and Events when working with the School?s events and communication team

Responsibilities
  • Dean's Office
    • Support Research: Assist in identifying key themes relevant to our strengths as a school, timely global climate challenges, and audience interest.
      Content and Process Development: Contribute to the creation of materials, including agendas, speaker briefs, promotional content, and related policies, protocols, and procedures.
      Meeting Planning: Aid in the logistical planning and coordination of internal meetings and events.
      Engagement Enhancement: Help develop strategies to increase constituency engagement and satisfaction, including among the student body.
    • General Writing: Produce drafts and other content for a range of writing projects (e.g., internal communications, social media posts, etc).
  • Communications and Events:
    • Event Programming: Work with communications team and programmatic leads to move event programming forward.
    • Logistical Support: Determine event logistical needs and manage space, audiovisual, catering and other needs.
    • Promotions: Promote Climate School events to the Columbia and external audiences as appropriate.
    • Project Management: Keep event management tools and calendars up-to-date
  • Special projects and all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor?s degree or equivalent related experience, Minimum 0-2 years of project, or administrative task management-related experience required.
  • Excellent oral/written communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent analytic skills.
  • Highly effective organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated interest in climate, sustainability and/or Earth science education.
  • Excellent oral/written communication and interpersonal skills.
