For more information, visit: https://offices.vassar.edu/human-resources/benefits-and-wellness/tuition/ Position Summary and Responsibilities The Creative Director advances Vassars mission, vision, values, and goals by championing and shepherding projects related to Vassars brand and the visual representation of that brand in the world. They are a client-oriented consultative partner and insightful creative who will take on an ambitious portfolio of projects and engage and inspire colleagues across and beyond the campus. This crucial position will be a part of the core team responsible for elevating and amplifying Vassars narrative. Responsibilities: Guide big-picture design strategy and visual vocabulary by building on the existing foundation and working in partnership with the vice president and key colleagues. Cultivate relationships with partners across the Vassar community to support cohesive design for strategic multi-channel storytelling. Encourage brand-aligned boundary pushing and modernization; strive to reach audiences hearts and heads with work that is human, relatable, memorable-and goal-driven. Skillfully supervise designers, content creators, vendors, freelancers and staff focused on comms operations with an eye to nurturing creativity, using resources effectively, and fulfilling the goals of every project. Embrace and model a consultative approach to partnering with clients to meet organizational and individual needs while maintaining institutional standards. Facilitate efficient project execution. Oversee department budgets and expenditures responsibly. Maintain a portfolio of full scope high-level designs projects. Qualifications Required knowledge, skills and abilities: Minimum of 5 to 7 years as a creative director, art director, design director, or senior designer. A strategic approach to every project: bringing exceptional creative vision to achieve goals through compelling designs. 5+ years of cross-platform work - print, web, social, and integrated campaigns. Experience working as a systems thinker who is proficient in project management, possesses keen attention to detail and has the ability to rapidly prioritize (and re-prioritize) work. Knowledge of UX best practices and how they relate to accessibility standards and responsive-mobile-first designs. Genuine respect for and the ability to promote inclusive communities. Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills with the ability to address issues in a professional manner and with a positive attitude. Proficiency with technology to support the breadth of expertise of this role including content management systems, content engagement analytics, email-marketing platforms, project management and communication tools. Expert knowledge of InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop. Preferred knowledge, skills and abilities: Direct management of a creative team. Bachelors degree in graphic design, fine arts, or related fields. Experience working in a decentralized environment. Agency experience. Experience in higher education. Experience setting the design direction for an organization. Experience using Asana, Mailchimp, Slack, or equivalent systems is a plus.
