Starlab Research Lead | The Ohio State University - Military Veterans

Under the direction of the principal investigator and senior leadership team for Starlab, the Researcher 3 supports a variety of projects related to the core operations and strategy of Starlab. The Researcher 3 duties include: The technical and management activities required to evaluate, develop, prototype, and prepare research investigations for flight aboard Starlab or other platforms, to execute research activities relevant to Starlab and spaceflight, processing of payloads before and after flight, and other activities associated directly with spaceflight research and/or experimentation. Includes the development of collaborative and multi-party research proposals for competitive funding, the communication and publication of newly generated knowledge (where appropriate and permitted) to the broader scientific community, research data archiving and management, and dissemination of research outcomes to public audiences. (Interim) WBS Element Manager: Dr. John M. Horack The incumbent will manage the student associates who work in the laboratory, as a direct supervisor. The incumbent must have at least a Masters Degree in a technical field related to a demonstrated spaceflight research area. The incumbent will be responsible for promoting the research outcomes of all activities in the laboratory through the development of poster presentations, conference papers, journal articles, workshop talks, and other channels, in cooperation with the researchers. The incumbent will be active in leading and developing collaborative research proposals to external funding sources, to fortify research aboard ISS, Starlab, and other space-related platforms. The incumbent will be responsible for working with key Voyager and Starlab Business Development leaders in formulation of research proposals, early prospect meetings, and other front-end discussions related to growing research aboard Starlab . The incumbent will serve as an internal Ohio State resource to provide connectivity from the University research community to activities in the Starlab facility. The incumbent will represent Ohio State and our work on Starlab /GWCSP to external audiences, including technical meetings, conferences, and workshops. The incumbent will work to develop new lines of research activities and programs in space-related research. Required Education: Master's Degree Desired Education: PhD Required Experience: 5-6 years of experience in organizing and leading experiments in the laboratory and controlled environments managing lab communications; managing lab safety requirements; independently collecting and analyzing data; developing new methods; assisting with the preparation of new projects; implementing new or revised research methodologies; training graduate students, technical staff, post-doctoral researchers, undergraduate students, and interns on research methods; trains all incoming staff on lab-specific record keeping, protocols, and safety; maintaining laboratory research records; planning, coordinating, and executing experiments; procuring supplies and reserves research spaces; working with lead investigator in the research and development efforts of new research projects and to develop goals of projects; assisting the principal investigator in the preparation of grant proposals; performing independent critical analyses of pertinent literature; presenting research results at national and international conferences; authoring/co-authoring scientific manuscripts, technical publications in collaboration with primary researcher. Desired Experience: 6-8 years of experience in organizing and leading experiments in the laboratory and controlled environments managing lab communications; managing lab safety requirements; independently collecting and analyzing data; developing new methods; assisting with the preparation of new projects; implementing new or revised research methodologies; training graduate students, technical staff, post-doctoral researchers, undergraduate students, and interns on research methods; trains all incoming staff on lab-specific record keeping, protocols, and safety; maintaining laboratory research records; planning, coordinating, and executing experiments; procuring supplies and reserves research spaces; working with lead investigator in the research and development efforts of new research projects and to develop goals of projects; assisting the principal investigator in the preparation of grant proposals; performing independent critical analyses of pertinent literature; presenting research results at national and international conferences; authoring/co-authoring scientific manuscripts, technical publications in collaboration with primary researcher. Resume Required. Salary: $64,000-84,550 annually. The actual salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limit to, education, years of experience, internal equity, etc.
